Hows my oil mileage?

Checked my oil last weekend and noticed it was a little less than full so I bought another quart today and it took about 2/3 of the bottle. So it burned 2/3 of a quart in 2000 miles, is that pretty decent? As far as I know its the original engine, now with 107,000 miles.

That sounds about right actually. I believe from the factory they burn about a quart every 3000 miles so it sounds like you are on par. It varies though depending how you drive. The harder you push the car the more oil it will burn.

yep - I concur - think my 74K original 12a burns thru oil even quicker. Heard that anything over 500-600 mi/qt is "OK", so you have a nice tight engine there!

are you leaking oil, or are you burning it? I have to top off my oil usually once a week but thats because im leaking a LOT of it. If there are no leaks then your definitely burning oil. With 107,000 miles, thats probably normal for you to burn oil

Aye that's perfectly normal. The OMP adds very small amounts to help lube the rotor seals.

Thats about right for normal oil consumption. As was stated 1 qt. every 3000 miles or just change it then. Thats what I do.

What he means by that is that the oil will saturate your bushings and cause them to "rot"

But chances are your bushings are already pretty bad.

Mine has a problem!! It runs great, has plenty of power, has great compression, but uses a quart every 300-400 miles. It smokes off and on.

Problem is, it runs so good. I wonder if I could take apart the engine and just change out the oil seals? This engine runs so good, I do not feel the APEX seals or the housings are bad. I think 29 years of service without EVER being tore down has taken a toll on the oil seals.

Can the OMP system cause an excess of oil to be burnt?

Yes, and it can be adjusted. See the FSM for details.

Never really smokes when you start it. Sometimes smokes when HOT and you punch it from standing still.
I run synthetic and lucas oil treatment. I believe this expensive cocktail keeps it from being a reportable environmental nuisance!!!
I tried just running valvoline 20w50 in it at first and it smoked like crazy!!!

I just think the oil retaining seals are hard and brittle. The engine has never been into in almost 30 years.
