how wide front tires?

on stcok 13 rims how wide can i go on the front. I have a set of 205 50 on the back and love them but how wide and what series should i go up front. i would like to do 195 50 but i can find a set. Best i can find is 185 or 195 60s will that look stupid with a taller tire up front?? and how wide can the fronts be cause if i can fit 205 50 i will go wider on the back. any ways thanks

205. it will probably look a little funny. what did you find in a 205/50? what i would do is move the 205/50 to the front and get a 215/50.

205/60 is the widest you can fit on the front with stock rims. It does get pretty close to the strut, though.

I would recommend new rims if you're going to wider tires. 205/60 is a bit much for the stock 5.5" rims, and you'll have problems with the tires buckling-under. My handling actually improved when I switched back to 185/70s.

I do not think anybody makes a 205/50-13. If they do, it will definitely not work with the stock 13" because it will have even more buckling-under problems than the 205/60s do.

I ran 215/50/13s on the front of my first '79 with no rubbing problems. They were the Yokohama tires with the "screaming A's" tread pattern...I think they were A378's....no longer in production, so I guess it's irrelevant. Got some pics for the non-believers, if any, this time around...

205/50R13's are standard fitment on MK1 and MK2 Rx7's in the UK

Its also a common size For Ford Capri 2.8i Specials over here and the MK2/MK1 escort guys use them too

I belive Falken,Fulda,Bridgestone and Dunlop all sell tyres in this size on the UK market

good luck with the 215's ... i've always liked them.

a small word of caution, (just in case you never heard it before) if you're going to use the BFG Radial T/A tires ... be very, VERY careful in the wet.

where i come from, we call them "the suicide tires" ...

peace!

I cant speak for the street tires, but my BFG Comp T/A R1's stick great in the wet, even with about 2/32" tread on them. I did have a set of Goodyear eagles that did the 'death in wet' thing. Also, I've never seen wider than a 205 up front with stock offset, though you could probably squeeze a 215 up there.

No ... it's not the R1's, it's the OLD, OLD, OLD (think back to like 1991) T/A's, I didn't even know that BFG still made them until I saw an add for them in a magazine a few months ago ...

Anyway, I have never seen the 215's fit up front without rubbing, but the guys that had them didn't care!

In case anyone was wondering why I was in a deserted town, that ain't no deserted town. That's just another backwoods crappy OKie city that I used to travel through on my way to meeting my old ex...

Well worth the travel...too bad she wouldn't move down here when I asked the first time....
