How and where to buy 13b’s

Not sure if this is appropriate for this forum (sorry in advance) but I’m wondering how y’all even begin to try and buy a 13b these days? Obviously you want one with good compression, obviously you don’t want it to be messed up internally, and obviously you are more than likely going to have to tear it apart no matter what (unless you’re buying from a very reputable shop). But where do you get this motor from? Mazdatrix is on a heavy back order, atkins doesn’t sell full motors anymore, so how can you guarantee getting a decent motor without buying an entire car with it? You obviously can’t turn over a spare motor on some guys shelf by hand and check the compression, so do you just piece one together from individual parts to guarantee they’re okay? I’m at a loss here and so frustrated with the whole process, currently..

Reach out to known builders and supply them with the parts you already have. If you have none expect to pay, if you have some expect for a large portion to be replaced to limit the builders liabilty.
