How to Start a Classic

What is your recipe for starting a 7 that has been sitting for a long time? What does a 1st gen need poured down her throat, etc?

pour one cap full of regular oil on each rotor (thru the carb). then hand crank the motor via front pulley nut (19mm) for a couple of minutes to ensure that the internals are properly lubricated.

change the engine oil/filter

disconnect the spark plug wires.

crank the engine until oil pressure register in the guage

install fresh/clean spark plugs, reinstall the spark plug wires, floor the gas pedal and start away. be sure that your battery is good

Don't do this in an enclosed garage, and preferably at night!

The oil haze will tend to attract attention, and with a rotary running loudly, they'll all know who it is, trust me.

I have a detached garage so I always do it in the garage with front end facing out. this is what I call pest control. this is why LAFD helicopter is always hovering in my neighborhood

PS - started my 12a blown motor just spinning it over and pumping the gas after sitting for about 3 years.
