240sx terms

by the way, u cant realy call a 91 240sx a s13 n a 95 240sx a s14 because the s stands for silvia and silvias come with sr20det. here in the states they come with "2.4" litre engine so its called a "240"sx. the s13 is the one that looks like a 91 240sx wit a trunk (not fastback) wit non flip-up headlights. the "180"sx (the one that looks like our 91 fastback 240sx) in japan comes wit a "1.8" litre turbo charged engine.
in japan they call our 91 240sx with a trunk onevia because they come with 180sx front ends with silvia rearends. also a 91 fastback with a s13 front n a 180sx rear is called a sileighty.

i know its not a big deal but ull get smashed on some boards for callin them s13, s14

I don't know about the other models but my 90 hatch said s13 on the firewall(hs13 to be exact). the S in S13 does not stand for silvia because all 89-94 silvias and all 180sx are S13s. They are all either s13,rs13,ps13,rps13, but they are all s13s. I think they were called chassis codes.

Did any of you guys hear about the new neon for sale? The new dodge neoon srt-4. It has a 2.4 liter turbocharged 16-valve DOHC engine 230 horsepower
250 lb.-ft. of torque 0-60 in 5.8 seconds
New Quaife Automatic Torque Biasing (ATB) differential. It is considered right now only second in speed to the viper the second fastest production car out there in a neon get that. All for like under 21k. Frigin nuts, what you guys think.

The question not really asked is, relative to what? Quarter mile times are traditionally slow for all but tuned FB era cars, simple matter of torque. Speaking from a touge perspective the FB is a serious handling car that more than makes up for power loss in braking and turning. And wangan... well... thats another story best told by someone brave enough to run the freeway.

Oh... and its perfectly legitimate to call a 91 240SX an S13 because its a chassis code, not an engine code. And if the other boards want to smash on that, I've got the ever classic words: why don't you check the plate? <ok, not so classic some places...>

ok, we're straying from the subject lol. Now I'm 215-220lbs. I beat a 91 prelude si with 4ws. He said I passed him like he was sitting still. Whats so great about street porting a 13B 4-port that makes it so damn fast lol. I beat my friends 12a as well. He had an exhaust and made his secondaries mechanical. So I don't know. rast nests suck thats all I know from what I've heard. And electric fans give good HP. I also read somewhere the adding an exhaust system (headers, etc) will add 40 horses. Same with an intake, is this true? And by the way 95-99 240s in japan are s14s. It's just body styles. Just like cpt gloval said. Thats it.

porting a 12a OR a 13b really opens a can of worms as far as potential power goes. i've always heard that a moderate street port will yield a 50% increase in power on an NA, as a conservative estimate.

as respects exhaust, racing beat estimates about a 20% increase in power with one of their header->muffler systems on an NA, which has proven to be reasonably accurate for a lot of people (i haven't heard anyone disappointed with their RB exhaust).

intake... erm. that isn't really much of a bottleneck on a stock port motor you may see a couple ponies over stock with an intake, but not 40, definitely.

electric fan, frees up a couple horsies. i've always looked at those as a reliability/flexibility mod.

the smog pump makes a difference in feel from a standing start. the pump's clutch disengages at about 1500, so it doesn't affect peak hp by any more than a half a horse, but from idle to 2k, removing the smog pump really makes the car feel a couple hundred lbs lighter. i bet disconnecting it will shave a quarter sec off a 0-60 time.

ps: here's an s12 nissan/datsun body: i think those are pre-silvia. hell the datsun 210's chassis code was s10, pretty much disproving the "silvia" claim.

/edit: you have a SP 4-port? that should be a pretty powerful NA 13b. estimating a 50% power increase over stock (assuming 130hp stock), you should be running anywhere between 175 and 200hp. have yo had the car dyno'd? what mods do you have aside from the SP 4pt?

err. yeah a '91 prelude isn't all that either. something like 140hp, w/ a honda torque curve. the 4ws option adds a couple hundred lbs, too, i'd imagine.

my stock SE should be able to take a stock '91 qualude no problem, especially w/ 4ws.

A street port only adds like 10-20% more power.
It's the combination of street-port plus bolt ons that give them a nice power output.

91 prelude ain't nothing... I spanked a guy with the 2.0Si model..

Engine HP Ratings
B20A5 2.0L DOHC non-VTEC 87-91 Prelude 2.0Si 135hp
B21A1 2.1L DOHC non-VTEC 90-91 Prelude Si 145hp

my friend had his accord with some exhaust and vacuum fixin's and couldn't get past me either.. it was very close though.. i wasn't pulling on him but he wasn't gaining on me either.. Adrenaline was crazy. =)
