is there any difference between the 81-82 oil coolers and the 84-85 se oil coolers

The aluminum mounting tabs appear to be different.

They look the same to me, although if it wasn't raining I would go get you some measurements.

YES they are different. Go tohttp://www.mazdatrix.com/b6.htm and you can see a picture of both of them. The 81 and 85 had different style radiators, so the oil cooler was placed differently.

the mounting brackets and tabs are different. they are definatly different part numbers. the threaded fitting for the lines are angled differently as well.

nm just spoke to MAZDATRIX....no differences, SE is a lil bigger, just brackets...oh and of course angle due to the sway bar...noticed that last night...

The angle is because the SE oil cooler mounts in front of a full-height radiator, while the non-SE air/oil coolers mount directly beneath a partial-height radiator.

If I'm thinking about the same angle you're thinking of.
