how much power?

My friend wants to get an idea of how much power he'd be getting out of his car. About how much power would a 12a put out with no cats, acv, air pump, or a/c being fed by a rebuilt stock carb with the secondaries rigged open?

Stock 12a bhp is about 101 from Mazda, this is flywheel hp. With the mods you're talking about, you're freeing up the exhaust system without the cats, lessening drag on the rotating assembly with A/P removal, A/C, etc, so he may be gaining about 5-8 hp from exhaust at top rpm, about 2-3hp from rotating mass and drag, and probably 5-10 for secondaries being modified to open sooner.

All totalled, that gives him about 120 ~ 125 at the flywheel, which equates to about 90 ~ 100 at the wheels.

Fuel mileage is going to be pretty bad with that setup; I would estimate abut 12-14 mpg city. HTH,

I see... not bad for spending $150 to get the secondaries rigged and a strait pipe put in. Actually he had it done about 3 months ago and he says hes been getting around 20 both highway and city which is quite surprising.

Yeah I don't see why mileage would be much affected by that setup, esp. if he doesn't floor it too often.

Mechanical secondaries won't make one bit of difference on outright power. Realistically, I'd say he'd gain about 5hp all up... if he's lucky.

I'm with you revhed mechanical secondaries do not increase hp one bit.

Also I thought stock 12a was net 100 hp, could be wrong I guess!!

go to the first gen main page and look for the button that says "new thread". list what options yours has(carbed, fuel injection, rear disk or drum brakes) and we will help you. Or search "model" and youll find lotsa stuff
