How does the muffler mount?

Hey Guys,

So we're tidying up all the "little things" on my friend Marc's FB that we just got reassembled and running. Somehow, the hardware/bracket to mount the muffler got lost in the shuffle and we have no idea what it looks like or how it works. So right now the muffler is bolted to the midpipe but just bounces there in mid-air.

The Heynes and FSM are no use at all, and I was wondering if someone could snap a picture of what the muffler mounting system looks like so that we can figure out what we're looking for or how to fab it.

Or even better, does anyone have a spare they'd be willing to part with?

Jon

I just make hangers out of old tires. I've actually seen "exhaust hanger kits" that are JUST AN OLD TIRE with some plumbers tape LOL

Are you talking about the very rear bracket that holds the muffler up?

Is it a stock muffler or aftermarket (like RB maybe?)

Theres a bracket above the axle and one before the axle and then depending on the year
theres some up by the tranny. At the rear is a brakct attached to the chassis with 2 tabs bent
down that you attach the donuts to. There 2 donuts on the drivers side and 1 one the
passenger side. Couldn't find any good pics.

It's an RB muffler, and I'm talking about the very last mounting point for the exhaust system. We've got all the mounting points from the engine to the rear axle covered, but the muffler itself has nothing to bolt to. There seem to be two studs on the back of the muffler, but whatever they once bolted to on the car was removed during the rotisserie body work and never re-attached.

So even if I had a generic "muffler mounting kit", I've got nothing to mount it to!

THIS! If this holds up the muffler directly, this is what we don't have. The bracket attached to the chassis with the bent tabs to attach donuts to! I need to know what that looks like in order to fab one, or I need to source one somewhere.

there is a U shaped bracket, which has three rubber hangers (two on the left i think) and then from the rubber hangers there are a pair of simple tabs that bolt to the muffler

It's that U-shaped bracket that I'm missing. Above the muffler there is nothing but chassis. Nothing to bolt the rubber hangars to.

Anyone know where I can find one?

Junkyards around here don't have any FBs or FCs, and since I can't find this part in the Parts Fiche or FSM, I'll have to head over to the WTB section!

Thanks for the help guys. If someone is able to snap a picture that would still help, because at least then I'd have an idea of where it attaches to the chassis and might be able to fab something up.

there are 2 8mm holes on the rear chassis crossmember right above the muffler, the bracket goes there. you could pretty easily fab something that would work, its pretty simple, if my soldiworks computer hadn't taken a dump, i would draw it up

the part is NLA from Mazda, i'm missing the bracket also.

I can get a pic or 2 of the mounts on my magnaflow, it uses the stock hangars off the rear of the car with a custom hangar on the muffler may give you a good idea or 2.
