Jack up the car, drain oil, remove driveshaft, remove shift lever, support tranny with a jack, remove bolts around bell housing (there is one that is covered by the starter), remove clutch slave cyl.,unhook wires on side of tranny, remove tranny mount, slide tranny back and out. You have figure out how to support the engine without the tranny in there. And don't work under the car without jack stands. I probably forgot something minor but thats about it. The bolt on top with the lift hook on it is threaded in the engine AND has a nut on it for the hook. Anything minor you'll have to figure out as you go.

Slightly different procedure Three bolts through the inner fender, unhook the steering arms, and I've been looking FC's to long to remember if the column attaches at the box or if you slide the whole column out of the firewall. There might be a knuckle under the dash to unhook. Put your tranny back in first if you followed the first post

Around here you can get a kit at the auto store with jackstands and a proper transmission jack (scissors jack with little wheels to roll it in and out under the car) for less than $50. They're light duty but that's all you need for the 7. I bought one at discount for about $35, just in case I need it.

The whole combonation switch should come off as a unit IIRC.

There are two bolts that hold the steering shaft to your dash, have you got those off? I'm asuming that you have the steering wheel, ing. lock, and combo switch off-- correct? The biggest issue I had was getting the Pitman arm off, really I never did I just seperated it from the drag link.

I think there's a locking tab at the top backside of the comboswitch, can't recall if it's lift, or depress.

your best bet on the pitman are is to seperate that from the drag link and take it out with the box. You are going to need a "pickle fork" and a good sledge hammer either way you go. Auto Zone should be able to lone you the 'fork.

Get a puller. It's got like two or three claws on it and a bolt. Good for pulling steering wheel hubs and pulleys offa alternators and such too.

you don't hafta remove the pitman from the sector shaft as long as you remove the a/c condensor and bracket, battery and battery tray. with the pitman arm off, just the battery and condensor must come off, no need to discharge the r12. get a pitman arm puller from autozone, the one for compact cars works fine, and get to pullin.
by the by, thanks for all the advise this weekend on pullin mine. its in now but I messed up the combo switch and now the brights stay on. damn ballsprings.

If I remember correctly, to remove the combo switch there is a plastic ring (like a zip tie that uses a screw) that must be completely removed due to the fact that it runs through a couple of retaining loops. This threw me off when I tried to remove mine. Hope this helps...
