I first bought it in 1997 at a tender in Hawkes Bay, NZ. I paid US$350 for it without wheels, engine, trans, d/shaft. It had been stolen and dumped in a river, so I rebuilt it and eventually put in a J-Port 12A that was good for 220HP or so. I sold it again in 1998 for US$1800 as I needed the money to move to the UK.

I bought it back last weekend for US$2200, complete with a US$9000 paintjob, 12A bridgeport, Holley Blue pump, de-seamed, de-bumpered, lowered with new Jamex springs/shocks and a '85 gearbox. It's the same car, I've checked the chassis numbers (SA22C 660544) and it still has the same switches and marks on the interior that it did 6 years ago when I first bought it.

And no, I'm never selling it again. Currently building a 13B supercharged engine to slot right in, with a FC 5-speed, FC brakes and repainting it a Mercedes silver colour. Watch this space!

Got mine in September of this year. Its a 84 GSL with 52000 miles on it, previous owner kept it in garage mostly, runs fine, needs exhaust work, minor tune up, and NO RUST!!! This is a amazing thing up here in the Chicago area, as the road crews love to use the nasty stuff. My girlfriend bought it for me as I wrecked my previous car. She spent $3,000 US dollars.

I found mine on autotrader. $500 not running. I've probably put $2000 into it since I bought it.

Same Here - Autotrader.com -$2500

Mine was Lady Driven, same owner for 17 years, 100% stock, and never crashed. Non smoker too!

She did have a long haired dog though.. It took a while getting all the hairs out.

I looked in Autotrader and other sales magazines, classifieds from as far as 300 miles, and drove around looking at SE's for 5 or 6 weeks before finding mine. The nice thing about looking at so many cars was I could compare them all to each other.

I wanted Tender Blue, but also wanted the leather interior and hated the way brown looked in that car. I looked at Tender Blue, Ocean Blue, Dover White, and Black. I "settled" for a black '85 that was in the best shape (and cost the most) and have treasured it for the last 10 years.

I don't think I'll ever part with it, a feeling that luckily my wife understands

jw- by the way.. When I bought my Cougar two months ago as well it needed new seats and I finally put them in a couple days ago. I found a needle under the seat. I threw it out.. but this is a reminder to those who buy a new vehicle "to them' to make sure you go through it. If I had driven accross the border and they searched it.. the usa would never believe it was not mine...

81 non runner in paper $500, told the guy that all I had (pulled the cash out of my wallet and pockets) was $386.23. He sold it to me for $380. Been rebuilt, daily beater. -SE was at an auto auction $480 Tax, Title, License. Drove to gas station, towed her home (flooding issue). Fixing as the days go.

FB

initially i wanted an FD so badly that i was willing to pay half of it @ least, and me still being in high school, i couldn't possibly scrounge up enough dough... i found 2 FD's a black and a white one. But it was from an insurance broker that was advertising it online... sure enough i called about it, left a message and even emailed. however, it wasn't meant to be as i suspected the 2 FD's to be false advertisement.

barely vexed, i still moved on and searched until i found this sweet brown colored FB that was in 99.9% great condition. from there on, i suppose they say the rest is history.

one thing to note: i ended up having a car that i actually never though of owning, which is the FB, and am actually much happier of the result...

I bought my first one in 1982 or so. I bought a used '79 from the dealer. I paid $6500 for a car that stickered for less than that. I kept it for 2 years and put another 37k miles on it and sold it for $6300

I was looking for a GSL-SE for about 3-4 months in my sophomore year of high school, and I found it in the local paper for 3.5K. It was a grandma driven car with 160k miles and all records (new engine at 100k). Well, I ended up paying 3.7k for it because there was another buyer, and I drove her home. Much later, her brakes weren't working too well so I installed a new brake master and now she's as good as new.

Must be old post week. I got my first one, an 84 GSL, from my brother in law a few years ago for $2,100. The second was an ebay special, an 85 GSL bought last June for $1,600. See them both at:

Searched autotrader.com for a few weeks just looking for a car that would be a daily driver, car across a 1985 rx7 gs by accident, looked through the gallery, called the owner named a price, picked it up 2 days later and drove her 200 miles home... then she died on me doh! almost got her back to life as of this mourning.

My dad was working with a guy who had a brother who had the 7. I spent a month trying to get ahold of him and finally did. Got it for $450. The guy thought it had a bad fuel pump; turns out it was out of gas.
