How did you get your 1st gen
I got mine at the dealership my gf worked for in Minnesota.
They wanted $7999 for it, and I talked them down to $3000, (before taxes, etc) which was only $17 more than they owned it for.
Its fun having dealership experience, and coming across a new salesman....hehe.

Picked it up from a coworker when I lived in Washington about a year ago. I was in need of a car badly and never had owned one. He told me he'd sell me an RX-7 for $500, (82 GSL) I was like...eh? Didn't really know what it was. He came to work with it and I noticed how loud it was. (Bad exhuast) Apparently he tried to make it go "fast" so that kinda scared me away, but yeah, I needed a car so I ended up getting it anway obviously. Now I'm in love with this thing and have learned quite a bit about it as well as cars in general. It's started a whole new hobby for me. heh
So glad this is my first car and I seriously plan on it being a car I keep the rest of my life.

I saw mine for sale on ebay and it didn't sell for $1250. I could tell it had panasport clone rims and a great interior, so I sent two friends down to look at it while doing Army training in California. I talked to the guy and told him that my friends had $1k cash if he'll take it right now. She even threw a belt on the testdrive but was immaculate. He took it and they towed it. Needed a belt and fuel filter, everything else has been gravy.
got mine for $5700 AUD from the local trading post.
No rust, perfect paint, perfect interior, cd, good speakers, bridgeported 12a only 2 years old, 465 holley, rb intake manifold, descent exhaust. Immaculate condition overall

My first 7 had to be forklifted off a stack of cars. Cost me $300 and ran great for a year. I loved it so much that I searched for another. I looked in the paper and found only one 7 for sale. Drove it and that was that. I paid 1,100 for it. Was in great shape, and got it from an original owner who took very good care of it.
when i turned 17 my first car was a 7...got her for $2500...she ran great till i wrapped her around an F150
I've been thinking of getting another for years...and earlier this year my significant other got it for me...i found her in MD...got her for $1400...she ran strong 'cept she was rusted like crazy...so i set out on a quest and found my current baby in SC...
she sat for 5 years in a garage because the previous owner slide her into the curb and bent the axle and front arm...i swapped out everything good from my black one to my white one and she's been great eversince...even swap too

I'd been looking around for a first gen for about two months, as a car to use during my senior year of high school to get back and forth between my high school and the university where I was taking one class each semester.
The first one I looked at was a black '83. The exterior was in very good shape, and the interior was equally good (despite it being a smoker's car), but when my friend and I took it for a test drive, we noticed it had some pretty crazy rear end problems, and had trouble running at high rpm's.
The second one I looked at was another '83, but brown this time, and for a fifth the price (the first one was listed at 2500 USD). However, it was really crappy inside and out. Every body panel needed a repaint, and most needed replacing. The interior was completely shot to heck (the inside driver's door handle didn't even work--Jeff had to come get me out), and it took us about 10 minutes to get it started. Combined with the fact that when I drove it, the brake pedal had no resistance (it'd brake, just really unexpectedly, given the lack of feedback), I decided to move on.
The third one I looked at was the silver '84 GS that I ended up buying. Mechanically it was in great shape (only one owner before me), the interior was great, and the body was decent. It needed some minor bodywork, but it was clear that it hadn't been in any collisions.
Since I bought it, I've been Very slowly getting things back to the way they were when they were new (I'm just about to finish up a carb rebuild), and upgrading some of the stuff (i.e. stereo).

Dan
I had just finised university and started looking aournd.
My dad and I had done some work for a couple that had this '85 GSL sitting in the drive way, the cluch was "gone".
We made them an offer of $600 CND and they accepted. (My mom paid the $600 as a grad gift)
$100.00 later for a new cluch master cylinder I had myselfe a great RX7.
This is the car that started the Obsession (the blue one in my avitar)
Now I have a '84 GSL in 10x the shape of the '85. But there is no real cool story about this one...

Got the S from a friend of my dads when I was 17 to use as a daily driver while I "restored" the Trans Am, feel in love with it within the first few hours of driving it, here it is 2 years later, the TA sits behind the barn rotting and all my money goes into the Rx7 go figure
Rescued my GS from a junk yard and am currently giving it a total rebuild.

I bought my first (84 GS) when I first moved to Florida in 1991 for $3,000. The rest I have accumulated since are inconsequential.
They are more symptomatic of the disease that has
me since that time.

My first car SHOULD have been a dark green '83 GSL.. but I didn't get it.
I finally ended up getting a first gen in spring 2003.. a yellow '81 with no motor or interior.. I sold it 6 months later.
My first "real FB" I got last week, swapped it for my MR2. I love it
