in my experience, good cold starts but difficult hot starts for me was compression issue. decent enough to start first thing but wasn't sufficient after getting to temp.

McGill-
first, welcome to the Desert . I moved here (Sedona, AZ) from Alaska with my SA. My summer-there-driver becoming my winter-driver SA here.
(no AC. who knew?)

So here is my start-up protocols... (80 SA with original, stock 12A, 105K miles)
COLD: Full choke. Catches just about instantly, with usual minor smoke production, and of course, the 'manu-matic' choke kicks out after about 30 sec in spite the car not being anything like warmed up. But that is for another Thread.

FULLY WARM ReSTARTS: less than 15min sitting-
Instant start, no choke, minimal kiss on the Go pedal

FULLY WARM ReSTARTS: beyond 15+ min-
hooboy. This really is an act of faith.
Gas fully to the floor - and HOLD! - and start cranking. FWIW it always starts, but you want a strong battery. A nerves-o-steel to not whimp out part way thru, thinking "geez, am I going to flood it??". Hang on to the Cranking like grim death...
and your off.
So. Is my hot start working? Damned if I know. My SA has always (since the 62Kmi it had on purchase) started this way...
