1) Turn key to 'on' position.
2) Pull choke.
2a) Some people like to pump the pedal a few times.
3) Start car.
4) Adjust choke to 1500-2000 rpm.
5) Choke will automatically release when engine reached operating temps.

I start mine like a old GM,pump the gas a couple times, turn the keep over, nce it starts, keep the RPMs up about 2k let it warm.

I have no choke.

Yea, here in the thin dry cold air of UT, no choke means no idle, and I'm not that talented with the whole heel-and-toe thing, not to mention the pedals weren't designed for it. As for starting it, like 1stand3rd said, turn to on, pull the choke, pumpt the gas a couple of times, let her rip. It should start almost immediatly, if not don't keep cranking it, release the starter and pump another time or two, and try again. If you keep trying to crank it, and especially if you push the gas while cranking it, you'll flood it. Then it gets even more fun to start it

xlversatilelx - to clarify, when you pull the choke out on a warm engine, the **** will spring back and there is no need to start with the choke.

On a cold engine, pull the choke fully and it should stay there. If neither of this happens, something is wrong with the choke.

cold starts

"way up here in Northern Ontario, Canada, 'tis best to turn key on, pump gas pedal 8 times exactly, Pull choke all the way out and crank the engine. This scientific formula works on all of my [4] first generation RX7's

That would no doubt flood mine.

My old '82 GSL I'd turn the key, pull the choke on, pump the gas pedal three times and hit it.. would always start up, regardless of temp... My current '82 S, I turn the key, pull the choke and start it.. for some reason, it doesn't like the gas being pumped...

I used to turn key on, pull choke all the way, pump gas twice to the floor, crank the starter, when it started id push the choke in till I got about 2500 rpms, run it there a few seconds, and then down to 1500 or so, let the choke return on its own

Carb rebuilt this year...28 degrees Fahrenheit....pump pedal twice, wait 5 seconds....no choke at all...turn key....starts up immediately, pump the pedal to keep it running as I set the choke and away I go...
