High Mileage 7

My uncle got a 1st gen rx7. So he drove it to our house and we were looking at it and i looked at the mileage. The thing had 223,000 miles. That is a lot of mileage. It is a 1985 cream colored rx7 gs.

I just hit 230000 miles on my car. Mostly Hwy miles, and I have replace about everything on the car, I.E. engine, trans, rdiator, steering columb, coils, re-did suspension, fuel pump, clutch fan, water pump, alt, calipers, trim. Not as bad as it seems, most things like the rad, calipers, tie rods, ect have lifetime warrentys.

My GSL had 253,000 on it when I bought it. The guy said the engine was rebuilt along with the tranny, clutch, suspension, and some other stuff. Wasn't sure whether it was all true, but the thing runs pretty damn well. Just took it on a 400 mile roadtrip and didn't have a single problem. So - hopefully - it's got alot of life left in it. I've heard LSD's can wear out, and mine might have, but that's another story..

My 85 GS has over 175k miles on the original engine. Still no noticable oil leaks, or oil consumption over what it should. Any way to know if that is the original unopened engine?

My original engine lasted 152,000 miles in spite of being overheated by me in the stupidity of my youth. Some folks have claimed 300K miles on original engines, so just remember to never overheat, always change your oil and let your car warm up properly before laying into it - you too can keep your original engine happy!

My 85 GS had 215,000 miles when I sold it--and was still running strong! Though some of the external oil seals were starting to show some oil seepage, but not bad leaking. And many things like the original exhaust really needed to be replaced.

My '85 is really close to breaking 290K. It's not the original motor, though. My car is on it's third motor. A lot of those miles are highway, too.
