helppp

hey guys havent been on in quite awhile, but i have a new issue with the 85. Well the stock waterpump is finally done at 109k. Oh well no big deal i just ordered one. I was driving last sat knowing that the antifreeze was leaking "dumb i know". it wasent leaking too terribly bad and still isnt and i was checking the antifreeze quiet often/ i have the gilmer belt drive and the antifreeze was comin out the weep hole onto the belt which was spraying it everwhere under the hood and shortly there after it died. it started missing pretty bad like something ignition related got soaked. i did the second gen direct fire mod and thought that it could have gotten that wet somehow. that wasent the problem.. new plugs wires and all that still nothing. but i noticed that there are two sensors on the dizzy cap. could the one sensor closest to the front of the car be bad ? i have never had an issue like this. any input will be greatly appreciatied. oh and after the car died when i did get it back running a few mins later still was missing for the next 5 mins or so but then its like whatever was wet dried and it started hauling *** just like normal for about a mile then it went right back to missing. please help

I'd start with a can or 2 of brake cleaner and a blow gun and clean every ignition bit. Dizzy cap has no sensors. Sounds like you're looking at the ignitors. If those got wet, no fire in the coils.

Did you check for spark after this?

ive tried everything... its got good compression new dist cap and rotor, and it will start when the motor is cold with the choke and run on its own then when it hits op temp it dies unless i hold the gas down.. if i wanna start it after that i have to tap the gas to get it runnin and it still wont idle by itself.. i dont knkow what to do

have you tested for spark on the leading and the trailing plugs? ignitors can look good but be faulty internally. are you getting sufficient fuel in the carb (check float level when parked and when running)? i would pull the plugs and check them and see if you are running rich or lean or if they are gas soaked.

You'll need to pull the plugs and verify that they are sparking with your own eyes. That will greatly narrow down the list of suspects, and lead to a quicker fix.
