Airflow is my life
Mothballs repel mice IIRC. Throw some in the car. Get them evicted quick. They ate the hell out of the interior of my 62 chevy that I was storing, and the smell. Ewwwwwwww. I ended up giving the car away.

i had the same problem with my supra always getting into the engine bay, even chewed up my brand new NGK wires and crapped all over the engine
i set a bunch of traps around the car, which didnt work too well. i bought a bunch of poison and left that around the traps and soon after found a couple dead mice in my engine bay. sooo far so good, but you have to remember these things populate faster than rabbits so even when you think they are gone you have to keep laying out the poison or they will just keep coming.
also if your car is stored, plug all holes, cover the bottom of the car with plastic and tie stray cats to leashes around your car

I had rats in the garage. They even chewed up the engine harness of my mom's brand new Acura. WE laid the a bunch of traps, poison, mothballs...the whole 9 yards. That took care of some of them but the were still around. Then one day...puff...they all just disappeared. I think they are highly intuitive rodents and sensed that we were after them.

Put Bounce or any other brand dryer sheets in there. Just put a couple inside and a couple in the engine bay. Trust me this works really really good! This repells them way better than anything else.

This is why cats are a good thing. Lotta dudes don't like cats, on account of them being too feminine or something.
The truth of the matter is, they are low maintenance... No walking, No grooming, homeowner's insurance increase, don't make noise... Just add food and clean the sandbox once in a while.
Just let the cat roam around the car once in a while.

One time my cousin Walter got this cat stuck in his ***.
True story. He bought it at our local mall, so the whole fiasco wound up on the news.
It was embarrassing for my relatives and all, but the next week, he did it again. Different cat, same results, complete with another trip to the emergency room.
So, I run into him a week later in the mall and he's buying another cat. And I says to him, "Jesus, Walt! You know you're gonna get this cat stuck in your *** too. Why don't you knock it off ?"
And he said to me, "Hey man, how the hell else am I supposed to get the gerbil out ?"
My cousin was a weird guy.

Irish Spring!
Get one of those plastic traveling soap boxes and a bar of Irish Spring. Take a knife and shave the bar into strips. Put the strips in the soap box and leave it open on the car seat.
When you want to drive the car close the soap box and stick it in the glove box.
Repels rodents and leaves a clean scent in your car.

I live in the country and mice in the car are a fact of life, so I'm used to dealing with it.
Ok, you've got some advice of what to do, here's a couple of things NOT to do. Make sure there is no kleenex or paper towel in the car, and try and get rid of any paper or leftover coffee cups or anything like that. Also watch your airbox. They love to get in there and make a house and plug it up. If you have to clean up any crap, soak a dustmask in bleach and put it on first. Mice crap when dry and spread in the air can carry some pretty dangerous stuff. Use a vacum and stay the hell away from the exhaust air. I'm real serious here. I had them in my attic and had to wear full breathing apparatus to remove and replace the insulation. I have always heard mothballs work great, but the other things may work too. You could leave out a couple of traps inside the car. With a trap you're sure you got it, with a poison often you're not sure.
And find out where they're getting in. Holes in inner fenders, floor, door weatherstrip etc. Mine go up the inside of the front fender, and go in the vent. I have had a house the size of a basketball inside the cowl and wrapped around the wiper motor linkage.

Never had the mouse problem in the car ,but a couple of chipmonks spent considerable time filling the heat runs and J boxes on a VW beetle full of wild cherry pits. Getting that cleaned out was really the pits. Merry Christmas. and dont give me any crap about not being politically correct.

If you're going to go the way of the traps (or sticky paper) remember that mice follow the walls when walking around. So putting a trap in the centre of a room won't work, but along the walls or next to the car tires will work.
