help me decide on a sidedraft!!

ok. i know. ive searched and read but i have a few questions i couldnt find answers for.

im trying to decide what kind of carb to install on my 85 GSL DD. its bone stock now. i have a carter pump and holley FPR in the mail. im currently trying to decide what to do about exhaust. itll definately be getting a header. either a full RB set up or a RB header and the rest custom. ill be installing a 2nd gen coil and 2nd gen leading plugs.

im trying to decide what is best for my needs. im not looking to "reach the full potential" of my engine. i just want the simplicity of the 2 barrels over the nikki and i little more go. i dont want my fuel economy to go all to hell though. as long as i can keep 15-18MPG city or better, ill be ok. i need to keep the choke also.

i have a dell 48 on my SP 13b. its the first carb i ever broke into and its actually relatively simple to mess with. i havent tuned it yet as i still have to install the MSD set up on that car. id like to have the dell on my Fb as well to make things easier, but i fear the 48 would kill my MPG. i then turned to weber 40/44. all of which are relatively the same price. i just cant make up my mind. i thought about mikuni as well.

does anyone have a similar set up and can tell me their average MPG and driving style? maybe theres a carb im not thinking of? any input is greatly appreciated.

I have a dell on my stock 12a with RE header/exhaust system. You might want to use a dell because it has a choke although where you are it may not be deciding factor. The dell is a knockoff of the dcoe weber but with some refinements. Its considered a better carb than the original dcoe. BTW, I get ~23 MPG city/highway on average in my car 7 (80 GS).

ive run my 48 dell on a stock 12a for like 5 years now.
if you run a 48 now you can always rejet it for a streetport or 13b upgrade.

i already have a 13b upgrade in my SA. its street ported with S5 N/A internals. it has a dellorto on it as well. im debating using that dell on my car and buying an IDA for the 13b.

do it. up until 2 summers ago, i had a Dell on a stockport 13B and it was my daily driver. i had a great tune for the stock ignition, but stovk ignition, nonetheless. i still made 25 MPG on average. if i were to buy another carb setup though, i'd go with a Weber simply because it's easier to find parts.

You're both wrong, sort of. The Mikuni has a starter circuit that is operated with the choke ****. If you stiil have the temp sensor in the water pump connected, the choke will work on the Mikuni the same as stock. I've started mine in sub-15* temps.
