Help Me!!

Ok i got my Rx7 a year ago. I am 16, my dad and I have been working on the car for awhile. Well the car sat a for a bit and the master cylinder died. So we replaced the Master and slave cylinders and hydralic hose. Well my dad got interested in this Rats nest removal thing. We downloaded Rx7 Carls guide to this and did the procedure. Atleast we think we did.

We also took off the old fan and installed an electric one. Well The car had been sitting since september with a full tank of gas.. Yesterday we completed the fan installation and rats nest.

HERE is the problem , I turn the key the engine tries to start then it eventually does., but there is a serious issue the thing is idling at 2000 rpms. We looked inside and only 1 out the 2 fuel filters are receiving fuel. My car only has 1 rotor getting gas and it dragging along the other rotor. We discovered a gas line not clamped hard enough so we clamped it and gas didnt leak out.

Afterwards we started it again but now the car only starts if u give it lots of gas and still only running on 1 rotor. Well i kept it idling to see where there might be a vacuum leak or what. Then the rpm gauge starts dancing around going from 1000 -3000 and so on.

Our theory is the 2nd rotor isnt getting gas and the main one is dargging it along. So we jacked up the car found the fuel pump and it seems fine. There are 2 fuel lines we think. we found the end of the main line under the car. Is there another fuel pump inside the gas tank that may not be working? We are really puzzled and dont know why it wont fire the 2nd rotor isnt getting gas. Plus when we jacked the back up gas came to the 2nd rotor line and filled the gas filter so the line isnt clogged. Is there another pump inside the car that doesnt have enough pressure to send the gas to the filter.. your guys help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Here is a record of things done since we have had it.

Changer battery
Change Oil and oil filter
Premium Gas and Fuel system cleaner.
New master cylinder
New slave cylinder
New hydralic hose
Electric fan installed
Rats nest removed..

On the carb you have the fuel inlet line (the bigger line). It connects to the carb and splits off into 2 lines. You will notice 2 bolts on top of carb where this T (split) is. Take the bolts off, and you should see a metal screen (round shaped, most likely will come out with bolts). Clean these metal screens. Also change the fuel filter (located next to the fuel pump under car). Could also be a spark problem but it seems you are not seeing fuel coming from both primary jets in the carb. Check and clean that stuff and let us know if it helped or fixed anything. Also could be a vac leak. Sometimes they are hard to find. Double check your rats nest hoses and also check to make sure your vac line caps (the ones you used to plug unused vac lines since rats nest removal) are on tight.

Let us know

sorry it has taken so long to reply we have not worked on the car yet but.. its the 2nd lines fuel filter is clear and it will not fill with gas by itself only with gravity. The carb is believe is fine. I Really want to get this car on the road. It is my personal transport vehicle , I plan on keeping it as long as possible and rebuilding the engine eventually! The only way this car is going away is if it gets wrecked... but yes thankyou for your ideas we will try those but in the mean time does anyone have any other ideas?

Also is there a fuel pump inside the gas tank?

The other reason its taking so long to reply our cable is screwed up and only works sometimes....

ok that helps alot !! thankyou my dad and I were quite clueless about that. so why does the 2nd line go into the tank is a it a return line? it cant be tho because it leads in the fuel filter in the engine bay and into the carb. I know it goes in there to get fuel but what pumps the gas from the tank into that line all the way to the front? since the fuel pump is outside. Basically I dont understand how the fuel system works.

Fuel pump inside the engine bay? Are you sure that you're not seeing the carbon canister?

there are 2 fuel lines to the carb. one's fuel supply, the other is a return line. make sure the lines are connected correctly to the carb and the inline filter is on the supply line. the carb may even need to be taken apart, cleaned and rebuilt. passages may be cloged up.

Well we talked to my grandpa about it he is a cra fanatic and he said we were on a rabit trail that the reason the engine is missing is cause its an electrical thing like the condensers or coils. Or its a vacuum leak.

My first though was electrical when you said the tach was jumping around. Go through and make sure all that stuff is functioning (fouled plugs?) In the carb see if you have fuel in both bowls, it will wake small mirror to get a good look at the rear.

yes the rpm gauge is jumping around so were gonna replace the spark plugs and condensor and check the coils. What is the preferred spark plug for a rotary engine i have heard NGk is good any other brands incase the auto stores dont carry that brand>?

What year is the car?

NGK is the best, but Denso will also work. Do not use anything else.

Take a pic of the carb and the fuel line going to it and post for us.
if the car is a 79 - 83 then you can take off the fuel line and turn on the switch and you will see fuel flowing out of it.

Check for spark from both coils, Pull your plugs and check them. Use Antiseize on the new plugs, or when you put the old ones back in.
