Question help with gauges..

i made room for 3 gauges in my dash.

the other day i bought a engine temp one. because its more accurate than the stock lil one, i bought a mechanical on not an electric one. is there any other spot in the engine that i can screw the temp sensor into? or will i have to go buy an electric one and conect it to the sencor under the oil filter??

also i got an oil presure gauge, cus i got a series 1 with no oil pressure. ive had a quick look around the engine and saw a spot to screw it in, but is there a proper spot in the engine to put it into?? i got a seres 3 engine and i was guessing its the one inder the oil filter next to the engine temp sensor?

When you say engine temp - What do you mean? Oil Temp, coolant temp, exhaust temp? If you mean OIL, then this should be what you need.
I just ordered mine as well. BTW, that part won't fit with the 1983-85 12A RX-7s equipped with oil-to-water coolers. You'll need a front mount Oil Cooler (which is a a MUST IMO if you don't already have one)

A Series III engine should have a small hole under the oil filter on the rear end housing to put the factory oil pressure gauge in. However, if yours doesn't, the link I placed earlier will take care of this for you as well.

thanks..
ive already got a series 1 oil cooler on it..
and ive got 2 different oil filter stands and i think the one from series 3 engine had a spot in it for something to screw into, im using the series 1 stand now... i will have to check that out 2moro.

and when i say engine temp i mean coolant temp... its already got the factory sensor under the oil filter except i bought a mechanical gauge that uses its own sensor. it doesnt work off resistance. and i got no where to screw it into cus i dont think the tread on the new gauge and the sesor are the same.. so i will have to buy electric one i think that will hook upto the factory sensor/

I don't think that's where the stock coolant temp sensor is, and even if it was - it wont work accurately with an aftermarket gauge.

Take off your waterpump, and drill and tap for the water temp sensor there on the engine side of the thermostat to get the truest reading.

I just finished doing that for my Haltech water temp sensor and my Autometer water temp sensor as well.
There's plenty of space there.

thats where the stock one is, except ur right it may not work off the factory sensor. might have different resistance reading for different temp's

Here are some older pics, I will get you newer ones with the Autometer sender installed this weekend.

Haltech Water coolant sensor (drilled and tapped where stock sensor used to be) - (This is a TII Pump BTW)

Location of Autometer water temp sensor on water pump housing (engine side of thermostat)

I've never bothered to check where it was, but since the stock radiator seems to have two senders, I thought
1) Coolant Low Sensor (on top)
2) Coolant Temp Sensor (on bottom)

Out of curiosity, So what are those senders for?

This is not counting the Engine ECU monitored coolant sensors on the GSL-SE waterpumps, to adjust for cold starting, etc..

the engine temp sensor would have to be in the block wouldnt it?? if it were in the radiator, the water would be cooler than the engine...
and if the radiator is blocked and there isnt no water flow then ur engine temp will be cold while ur engine is cooking...

the sensor on top of the radiator is a level sensor.
not sure what the side one is. might be another temp sensor.

unhook the sensor under the oil filter while the cars running and whatch the heat gauge drop to 0

I sell my version of that oil sending block for $38.00 plus shipping. Mine is a little smaller in size, anodized black, comes with extended studs, lock nuts, o-rings, misc. fittings for oil temp, pressure, and warning light.

1st7heaven, how many of those have you made? I'll be needing one for my next project. I just hope you've got a couple on hand so I can get one for my winter project.

By the way, what is the thread pitch and depth? Are they the same as RB's version? If so, that's perfect!

One more question. Do you know if it'll fit a 13BRE or 20B?

I have a 13BRE, and I have "test placed" on the Racing Beat one on, and it works fine. I just need new studs.

Racing Beat says theirs doesn't fit on FD engines, but I guess they really mean on stock FD engines in FD bodies.

It fits fine under this:

Thanks for the reply. I guess you'd need a spacer and a longer bolt for the short bolt on the left too huh? If a temp guage fitting will clear the oil line, I'm in bussiness.
