if its good a good body, no rust and drives nice, get it. Otherwise dont botther. Buy a fuel filter and fit it before buying it.

well, with those problems... tell him that Kelly Blue Book rate's it in "fair" condition at $1,000.00. That one would be considered in "poor" condition, and KBB won't even put a price on something in "poor" condition.

If he won't take $680.00, wouldn't take it. I bought my 82 with the 13b in it for 900!!! The car wasn't running that great, but...

if the body is in really good shape, and it has engine problems, then offer him no more than $500.

offer him maybe 200...

You'll find another one, don't worry. The last thing you want is to rush into an investment and realize it's not a good one.

The problem(if u still care) could also be the inlet/return filters/ strainers, I don't know if that is excatly what they are called. My 81 was stuttering in 4th and stalling at speed, and that seemed to fix it.

What does your gut tell you? Honestly? Usually every bad deal ive managed to get myself into (alot by the way) usually was preceded by a dont know about this. If its easy and things fall into place then those tend to work. Just from your story I would walk. You never know what the status really is. Did you pull the plugs? Did you hear the 3 swooshes for each rotor? Take a comp gauge, its the only way to be sure. I always to a comp check rx-7s now, unless the price is below $500. Another will come, dont worry, you may have to drive a bit further, but autotrader.com lets you put in miles from you....

i think you are too anxious to get this car...trust everyone when they tell you that another will come...

my second 7 had too much rust...but i got it anyways...paid too much and i was so upset at myself...

i ended up swapping it out with a non-rusty 7 so i lucked out...you might not...

if he doesn't take $300 i say WALK...another will be coming if you are looking...

you'll find people selling here all the time as well as ebay as well as autotrader...don't step into this if you are not willing to put ALOT of time money and work into it...for real...but if thats your intentions and you got the money to toss around then get it...

edit - you don't have your city listed just state...i checked the atlanta zip code and there are 8 rx-7's listed within 200 miles of atlanta...so there you go...excuse of no 7's around has been eliminated

i'd walk away from the one your looking at now (the one that he wont take under 850) sounds like he isn't to anxious to sell it. I'd wave cash in front of him....Feed him a line of bullshit saying that it has all these problems...that's what i did with mine...and they beleived me! Mine was in mint condition ha ha and they came down because i told them the OMP was starting to go out and that would cost major to get it fixed...soooo if he wont come down any further walk away

Well, if I can remember correctly..on my 83 limited GSL the shutter valve was the cause of my problems which is right under the carb..or alongside the rats nest leading to the carb.'s air and fuel mixture screw..

Just for future information RX7anator, you dont need a 7 to be part of this club. Just by comming here and showing that you want to learn about these engines and cars is good enough for me.

"congrats on your new car",,,yep u will spend many hours on ur baby, some happy and some not, but shes yours now ,,,have you checked to see if the secondaires are functioning freely,,may just need some wd-40 on the linkage seeing that u got over 55mph at one time, could u hear/feel the 4barrel secondaries kick in?
also check the check valve on the fuel return line comming from the carb,,,its a one way valve so dont put it back on backwards and spray it with some carb cleaner, it may be clogged. its located about 10 inches from carb, round metal piece one inch long (may want to start a new thread when you come back), also you will soon be needing a haynes repair manual,,,look on ebay or check one out at the library...

Welcome to the group! One word of warning... These things are ADDICTIVE! I bought my first, sight unseen, for $250.00 (83 LE) Turned out to have a problem with rear rotor... wouldn't do more than 25mph! Anyways, playing with that car hooked me... bought a 85 GSL, have about $550 in her by the time I towed back home. Runs great, but bad body and interior... Now I plan to make one good from two...

Anyways, your issues sound workable. Have fun!
