i went and test drove an 84 today and i had this long stretch of road so i said "hey...drag time" so i tore off...engine was soundin so night all the way up to 55...then i get the car bounchin around and thats all its got...i need to know wut the problem is and how to fix it soon...or my dad wont let me get the car and i need the answers by tonight if possible..thanks

Most likely a dirty fuel filter. Does the car have cats? Could be a clogged cat, ignition related or a combination of these things. Probably nothing major though.

 

well the headers looked like straight ****...and i know the exhaust is ****...so could this be the problem?

Clogged cat, dirty fuel filter, or possibly gummed up secondaries.

My bet is on the fuel filter tho, when my cat was clogged I couldnt get up to 35, let alone 55.

The fuel filter is a pice of cake. Its right by the differential, takes 2 minutes to do. Just watch where you spill the gasoline. The filter is like 5 bucks.

 

How far to rev up rpms before you can begin to move. Does it sputter and pop? Does it sound like a lawn mower? I looked at one once, had to rev it to like 4k before it had enough power to move. Turned out rear rotor had no compression. Pull the plugs and turn it over, youll know. Dont get it unless your ready for the worst. Expect less = get more...

 

you'll be able to hear it if one of the seals pop. If its fine, it'll sound nice and smooth, if its lost a seal, its gonna sound like ****.

But if he had a broken apex seal he wouldn't be able to get anywhere near 55MPH, so I can tell ya now thats not it.

 

the guy said he "re did" the rotar (meanin only one) so idk if he ment re build or wut..or he might just be a dumbass...who knows

well it runs sooooo nice...like way better then an 86 i was lookin at (and these are the only two rx7s iv every seen...so i dont wanna pass this up) and i think if i put in a few fuel pump filter..it will take care of it...and if not...after this summer im doin a engine swap...so all it has to do is run for like 3 months (im 15 cant drive till schools out...so only has to last the summer) so do u really think i should still run?? and the body is pretty good (wide body also to *** some time after swap) so i personally want this bad boy...but ur guys know better then me...wut wut ya think?? 3 months of it runnin or me runnin form it for 3 months??

 

id do this. Tell the guy ull pay to try and fix it. Say ull buy hte fuel filter and watnot and try to fix it. If that doesnt fix it he can keep the filter and the car

 

Its a little bit of moeny ull lose if u dont get teh car, but a lot ull save in the long run if it doesnt fix it

 

well there askin 1250 for it...which i think is **** cuz the problems...plus the interior smells so bad we hada put the windows down to hang our heads out....so tomorrow my dads callin the dude and tellin his monkey *** $686 take it or leave it (thats all i got saved...and my dad said its no good so hes not helpin me buy a project car) so if i get it i get it...if i dont i dont...well see...ill post tomorrow after school

 

I don't know man, i'd offer 686 and if he tries to negotiate say screw it and leave the car you'll find another car i'm only eighteen and i have already gone through 4 cars until i found my 7...of course i don't know if you'll read this before tomorrow so i'm probably typing for no reason but hey what am i supposed to do with no life.....sigh. Well anyway i think the cat is probably messin up on ya but i'd try the fuel filter first. How many miles does it got on it?
