HELP! 800 mile trip = busted power steering pump
this past labor day weekend i drove my seven from NJ to VA to WV back to NJ...totalling a flawless 800 mile trip.
i brought my 7yo daughter with me on the trip and while she slept i turned off the radio and just listened to the engine humming while i drove at an average 85mph...man that went on for hours...and i enjoyed every minute...
each destination i checked the fluids levels and such...i noticed the ps pump dipstick was showing half way so i went to the store...bought some ps fluid and asked my cousin in VA to fill it to the line and not over...
well...when i get home i turn the wheel all the way to park her in reverse up my drive way and all the sudden the ps went...manual...with a loud whine...
this was 2 days ago...today i finally get some time to see whats doin'...and well...after pulling the belts out of the way i noticed the pulley popped off the pump :eek
i was able to easily pull out the pulley ... well...i can't put the pulley back in all the way...i even tried tapping it with a hammer and no budge...
so i wanted to see if anyone had any ideas on either fixing it or if anyone had one laying around since so many like to pull it out...
oh...and please don't tell me its better without...i like the ease of power steering...

Well...thanx to HeffBoost I'll have another pump in the mail soon...
As for now, I pulled the pump out today and looked inside and little bits of metal shards was coming out :eek
I'm sure this pump has had it...anyways...I pulled the hoses out too...is it safe for me to drive it this way until i get the pump? I know some people loop the hoses together...but I already drained all the ps fluid out...will this cause any probs?

love the braaaap
Who needs power steering on a sports car? After driving without power steering, I LOVE it much more than any car with power steering. You just get to feel whats going on with the car more.
