Talking hee hee, check out what I got today!

Check out what I scored at work today! Not bad for $25, eh? It's off of some late-model Buick, like a Regal or Park Avenue Ultra or something.

Unfortunately, it seems to be a bit too long for an easy adaptation. Any thoughts?

is there any way to shorten the shaft that the pulley's connected to? I'm assuming it's just a shaft with bearings and possibly oil in it?

LOL!! I love how you posted that, making us drool at that sc, then showing us that it's longer than the friggin' engine compartment - Ha!

To business:
1)OK, the snout on that thing looks way too long, is it a gearbox for different sc speeds?
We can do without that. Now it might fit without relocating the firewall.

2) That throttle body might be workable, but if not I'm picturing a weber sidedraft... or two!

3) Might be tricky getting any known intake manifold to work. Might have to fab one up.

4) pm Sterling, he's building a one-off Eaton-SC-on12A car

5) keep us posted.

your right that supercharger is off a 231 FWD buick, 1990 and up regal's bonneville'. grand prix's .SSI pontiac's
it is not compatable with any rotory engine.

you will have to fab an intake to set it back far enuf to get the pullies to lne up, then the TBI wont fit on the end because it will be to close to the fire wall.

it wont spin enuf to make the HP you want if you get it workin. you will need different pullies wich are inpossible to find for it.

if I was you I would get my money back ASAP or try to sell it to some sucker for what you paid for it.
I think Ebay is selling them for 50 to 200 $$$

you got taken I am sorry to say

What the hell do you mean I got taken?! For the $25 I gave for it, I'm content to set it on my mantle as a conversation piece!

Dude, for $25, I would force that thing to work. Cut a hole in the hood, fab a big *** intake, and plumb that baby in there! Don't over engineer it, just make it work.

One guy has a part he can't easily use - that he obtained for next to nothing - and one guy has an engine that needs that part and is willing to pay...

Whether ASEMaster keeps the supercharger or flips it for a quick profit, I say it was $25 well spent.

Very, very nice find. I'm with project84; you should shoehorn that sucker in there any way you can! i suppose if you're handy with a mill and a gear cutter, you could do a 90 degree drive miter gearbox, and have a really freakin weird shape intake.

I also agree with Manntis, that no matter what anybody else says, that was $25 well spent.

A little more info about my find... it was from a new 3800 Series II we bought for research purposes at work. We disassembled the engine and the SC went on the shelf. That was 2 years ago. This means that my SC has never been run, it's brand friggin new!

HadaGSL-SE, while you did ask first, business is business and this thing's goin' on e-bay. In the meantime, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that this thing could still see service under the hood of my GSL. As an engineer and machinist by trade nothing is impossible... especially when it comes to fabrication

I'll keep you guys posted of any serious progress... in the meantime I think I'll PM Sterling...

-Later fellas!

Make an extension. Kinda like a Timing chain.

] [-------------------------------------] [
========================
] [-------------------------------------] [
And Fab some kind of extension to turn the pulley in the front of the car.

A few months back I saw in Turbo magazine a supercharger system on a Chrysler. (Same engine as a new gen V6 eclipse)

They had the supercharger mounted on the [b]back[b] of the engine, and had a long pole with a pulley on each end running to the front pulleys.

Some NSX superchargers have it this way as well.

It's just something to think about.

I was kind of going to let this thread die, but since we're bouncing around ideas...

I don't see how it can be done w/out going to some kind of fuel injection system, as this SC wasn't designed to have fuel running through it. As I understand it, carbs don't do well w/ positive pressure pushing through them, they're designed for vacuum operation for the most part. This means a major expense if I'm going to use my current 12A. Unless a guy could use a modified GM TBI unit...

That throttle body on the rear would have to come off (unless I punched a hole in the fire wall - "could you please open the glove box? My SC needs some air!"

The drive shaft the pulley is on would need to be shortened 6" or so too.

How bad-*** would it be to have a 90 cu. in. blower on a 70 cu. in. engine?!

Actually the Eaton M90 can run drawthrough. The Apex seals are designed to be fuel resistant. Last years winner of the GRM $2002 challenge ran a M90 off a 92 ford thunderbird SC on a drawthrough setup. The shaft housing in the front is simply a shaft with two bearings at each end that drive the SC vanes. The Series I 3800 SC had a eaton M45 with a smaller 3" drive unit. The do make them that are as small as 1" in length. The M90 will push 550CFM of air @ 10psi boost. This should be enough for a rotary. I want to do this to my 12A powered Midget for the $2004 challenge but i can't find the charger for cheap enough for the budget. You got an EXCELLENT deal on that charger and it is worth alot more than you paid. You could donate it to my Challenge car though I'd appreciate it.

I hope i've helped some, and let me know if you need anymore ramblings. I've been wanting to mate one of these to my 12A for a while and just haven't had the funds so i've done alot of research.

Thanks for the input. I talked to a guy from Eaton today, and he said it shouldn't be a problem to run fuel through it, but at the same time he'd never heard of anyone running one like that.

Right now I think it's all a moot point as my reserve price was just met today on ebay.
