Heater control box vents stuck

eight other old threads had no info. The vent control at the dash will not go all the way to the left so that I can duct a/c cooled air to my face.

taking out the vent box under the dash looks like a can of worms that I don't want to open

All the controls under there are very complicated. I'm up to gerry rigging something to it always vents to my face for the summer, and then gerry rigging something that will vent to the windows for the winter.

Temp slider I believe attaches directly to the heater-control water valve on the...driver?...side of the heater box. It controls a water valve that either lets in Hot coolant thru the firewall - or not. These valves fail (freeze up) esp if they are not used very much (like here in AZ), from corrosion with the coolant. And at least for the SA version, these valves are still avai.
If yours is 'frozen' open, admitting coolant, other than mechanically bypassing the whole line (so, dove-tail together the IN and OUT small heater lines at the engine side of the fire wall, completely by-passing the heater core), there is not much to be done under the dash...

I think the vent and the heater control valve controls are independent of each other.

After removing the glove box, I got some vent control levers to move, and now air comes out the front center vents. Air also came out on the far right round vent, but I taped that one up.

I will check the heater tomorrow.

I couldn't get air to blow through the defrost vents under the windshield

Thankyou, 7aull

correct, heater slider is only one connected to the heater-box/valve...
the vent-directional control wire hooks to a big flap on the heater-box that directs air up - or down. Make sure the wire is not kinked.

the upper pivot rod doesn't like to move

when air flows to foot vent, there is slight flow to defroster.
