there are answers to this by searching.

You will have to remove either the glove box to get to the heater/a/c unit or the dash. some say you can do it with only the glove box some say the whole dash needs to come out.

I had to take the entire dash out to get back there. You need to pull the plastic housing that is between the blower motor and the heater core that has the AC evaporator in it. Take it apart, take the piece out, then plug the holes that were left. After that put it back in between the blower and heater core (you still need the plastic housing) and that's about a 5 lb drop. Is it worth it to just take the dash out to do? Not to me, that's why I didn't do it at first. But later I had the dash out anyways and just did it because I was there.

I took the evaporator out of my 87 GXL with only the glove box and speaker cover removed. There are like three nuts to remove and the clamps on either side holding it to the blower and heater units. Then it just pulls out. After that, i went to the junk yard and got the plastic duct off another car without AC for $5.00. Easy and cheap!
