I want some opinions on new headlight bulbs. I have the stock 85 ones, and I live in a high deer and stupid people section of the country and I need better night vision. I was just going to order some Halogen ones from my RX-7 parts catalog (Black Dragon) any one have any suggested good ones that are bright and fit a stock RX7 round type with out too much hassle, also....(how do I keep my brights on without holding the stupid lever while driving?) heh I've driven at night and flicked the lever forward as a natural reaction, because that's the way it is in my other mazda...turns the lights off in the rx lol.

I bought the BD wiring harness with the relays built in and the Hella replacable halogens (the $40 ones in the catalog). I'm putting them on this weekend, I'll let you know how it goes. Reviewing the harness the other night and its not a bad setup and "should" require no real wiring or crimping or soldering to install, looks pretty easy. Gives you the relays as part of it, although they look a little cheesy and I'll be packin' spares just in case.
That link 7all pointed you at is a must read. I did a relay mod like that on my truck and it made huge difference.
I'll try and take some before and after pics to show the improvement.

if you would have used the search function you would have found this. but im in a good mood this morning try this thread lots of information https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/non-sealed-beam-headlight-650633/
and about the high beams a lot of our cars do that they are not supposed to do that you need to clean that or get a new arm. but im not going to tell you how to do it im going to make you look it up under the search function. its on the top menu bar it pulls down when you click it it helps a lot. good luck
PS i leave in an area where there are more deer related wrecks and fatalities in the entire country. we have the highest deer population in the entire country. so be careful drive slow or stop when you see the first one there are more behind him.

I just bought a pair of replacable halogens off ebay.
They were about $20-30.
Not the best quality, but they light up nicely and I can swap out the bulbs, which are just H4's I think.
It's a matter of what you want and what you think will be the best deal out there for you.

If you want brighter lights, look into getting conversion headlights (projectors or non-projectors). These allow you to change out your housings and stick in H4 bulbs. You can find those kinds of headlights for cheap on eBay, with bulbs included. My HyperWhite H4's in mine are alot brighter than my stock halogen sealed beams. The high beams also are bright if you get the projector headlights.
Do an eBay search for 7" H4 headlight conversions. And, your control stalk sounds like it needs replacing. IIRC, the stalks should be pushed forward and stay there for high-beams. You pull the stalk back to normal position and also moreso backwards to flash the high beams.

For bulbs, I use the XtraVision bulbs you can buy just about anywhere. Much much better than the much more expensive Silverstars.
Rewiring the bulb circuit with the use of relays makes a hell of a difference. I also added an additional relay that allows me to run the low and high beams at the same time. This was also a huge improvement. We have lots of deer in Michigan, so I feel your pain.

so the "Hella Halogen headlights" from Black dragon sound good to me. ($45.00) Thanks for the advice and instructions on helping get my brights working again, a nice small project for next weekend!
Should be fun doing Canyon runs at night...in the day you get the odd large truck on the wrong side coming around a corner, (thanks god for fast reflexes)

Okay, I've written this up before, but I'll take a minute to do it again:
When pulling the Audi out of storage, I had a dead headlight. So off to Autozone for a replacement. I've always used the Xtrabrite bulbs so that's what I bought. A few days later, the wife tells me the other side bit the dust. Turns out I had bought the last of the Xtrabrite bulbs last time I was there, so I paid out the (double) higher price for a Silverstar bulb.
I installed it in the parking lot, but when I turned the lights on it was a lot dimmer than the Xtrabrite bulb. So I figured that maybe it was a wiring issue. After I switched the two bulbs around, the results were the same. The Xtrabrite was much brighter than the silverstar. It also had a better quality of light, whiter and with much less glare and even a better lighting pattern.
Save your money and get the Xtrabrite bulbs. They cost exactly half what the silverstars do...
