Remember LD those prices are wholesale, what shops pay. Then the shop plays the mark up game, you pay double.

So the answer to both questions is poor folks like me don't have enough money to either:

1) buy a High end unit (if you can find one) = $206 + dealer mark up = $400+ per unit, or $800+ if you want 2 units

or

2) Buy two of the Mid-grade units = $136 + dealer mark up = $200+ x 2 = $400.

But I like your idea of a spare unit for 20 years from now.

When all the youngsters are flying around in Moller Sky Cars and we have the roads to ourselves.

That's why I bought a spare Mid-grade unit from the Atlanta place, about $200 out the door, now stored safely in the attic.

Great info but just so I’m clear, that number is for the 79-80?
Hearing now all 1st gen windshields aren’t the same.

The difference is in the 'frit band' or the green to grey tint bar at the top of the windscreen that helps to limit light reflection across the dash and in the driver's eyes. The later models have this frit band (green), and not all glass manufacturers are setup to do that.

The Pilkington Glass windscreen on my -SE was installed by a Mazda stealership about 20yrs back and does have the green tint across the top, but it was supplied by Mazda as an OEM replacement part - not an aftermarket glass supplier or installer.

Dimensionally - I'm almost positive the windscreens are identical shape between the SA and FB models. Maybe someone else can confirm,

Glass shops I have dealt with all spec'd 1st Gen glass as being the same 78-thru-85. But some glass is featured with various sun-band options across the top.

The glass dimensions are all the same. The 79-80 had a different color sun shade band across the top and it varies by year after that from what I remember. Ray is showing that windshield installed on his great looking 83 LE. so the part number may refer to 79-80 but it fits on any 1st gen.
