Get some semi-gloss black rustoleum spray for the trim and some 800 wetpaper to rub the trim down. mask and shoot. Makes a big difference. The red can be worked carefully with Polishing compound from the autostore. If that's the original red you can get matching paint from paintscratch.com in various forms and quantities.
Flush the cooling system thoroughly. It helps to get that $6 Prestone plastic flush kit from the autostore. I install the plastic tee in the lower heater hose on the passenger side near the radiator. You will find it useful.
Change all the lubes. Put a good gearlube (I use Redline MTF) in the gearbox, it makes a big difference in shifting, and the box will last longer. Use a good gear lube like Redline, AMS, etc., in the diff. Use the LSD stuff even tho you don't have an LSD. You can use dino oil or synthetic in the engine as long as you keep the oil sorta clean, which you can do by replacing the filter every month or so (it's so easy!).

My car is also a hand me down, if you would like to call it that!
I like to call it carrying on the tradition!
Listen to the advice you have been given! Change all your fluids, filters, hoses, etc! There is no reason to have an engine fail, becuase you cheaped out and didnt replace a cheap part.
Also, what are you refering too when you say "Tell me what that is in the back XD look hard?"

Oh yeah, change the hydraulic fluid in the clutch system. It's pretty easy to do and it's worth wasting some fluid to get all the bad old stuff out and gone. And the old stuff IS bad, no matter what you may think. Most of us have replaced master cyl, slave cyl and flexihose because they deteriorated from nasty fluid with water in it. It's kinda hard to replace the master and slave, and it's sometimes a problem bleeding when you've installed new cylinders.
So get a big bottle of hydraulic fluid, a clear vinyl hose that fits the bleed nipple on the slave, and a quart beer bottle to catch the crap you pump out when you operate the clutch pedal. Keep refilling the reservoir until clean stuff comes out of the bleed nipple. You'll be sorry if you don't, because one day you'll have to drive back home without using the clutch (which you get a chance to learn in case you didn't learn it on a farm tractor when you were 12), then you get to skin knuckles putting in new cylinders.

Too bad you don't live nearby...I have an extra set of stock 83 wiper blades and mirrors....LOL Seriously...listen to these guys...I'm just a girl and have been told time and time again I can't possibly know anything about cars because I have *****, but I agree with them about the fluid and filter changes. I just went through something similiar. My car sat up without a motor for many years and before I would even turn that key on the motor I put in I changed out everything I could. Even with spare parts on the other car that I knew were fine, I put out the extra money for all new stuff. The only thing I forgot to change was one of the heater hoses....of course it blew on her first test run. She runs great now!
