Talking GSLSE Sun Roof and Moon Roof questions

Hello all.

Is it common when a moonroof and/or sunroof, from an 85 GSLSE rattles when traveling on rough grade?

Has anyone experienced this? If so, how does one fix it. I'm finding it quite annoying.

Thanks!

M.

i agree..mine rattles a bit..i have the glass moonroof.
with the metal roof it's fine,,i replaced the screw crank
and that didn't do it,,but on the roof, the red latch part
where it attaches to the car,is the part that rattles.
take some tape and wrap the pins a bit,and that will work....your right,,it bugs !!!

i've never had that prob with my metal roof, i just got a glass roof for the summer it better not rattle! i tried it for fit but haven't drove around with it yet.

mine rattles behind the rearview mirror/light assembly. i keep meaning to take it apart and see what the hell is going on, but i always forget until i'm on my way somewhere and it starts up. i must look pretty sick screaming at my rearview as i drive down the highway

edit:spelling

I had wore out hinges/thingy's that are on the front of my 80 roof. they used to be coated with a rubbery substance, but are now wrapped with electrical tape to prevent rattles

They sell plasti-goo-dip at tool stores for handles on pliers and stuff. This might be a good application for it.

Here's an easy fix for that irritating, vibrating, blurry rearview mirror - cut a 1 3/4" length of 1/4" rubber fuel line. Slide one end over the nipple on the mirror arm and wedge the other end against the windshield. You may have to make a couple of attmepts at cutting the right length but you'll get the idea. It stops that annoying rattle and clears up the view in the mirror. It's my kind of fix - easy and cheap.

that fix for the rearview mirror came as original equipment, but most have been lost in the two decade plus struggle to stay road worthy. my se had one in the ash-tray until i realized what it was for. also, my glass sun roof has two 1&1/2" carpart squares glued to the front corners. previous owner must have done it. no rattle tho'

i still have the original plastic thingy that goes between the rearview and the windshield, i think the rattle in mine is coming from the wire that connects the light. there isn't much behind there that could cause a rattle.

i'm gonna go put my glass roof on and drive around today! thats all i need is another rattle!

Ya know, I tried to add electrical tape to the hinges of my glass roof, but once the tape was wrapped around the hinges they would not fit into the connector slots. I then tried thinning out the tape a bit but even with on single layer the hinges would not fit into the connectors. Odd. I'll try what Pele has suggested next, the "plasti-goo-dip" application material. Thanks Folks!

On my car the plastic coating for the two moonroof
tabs is still good,i've tryied some tape on the two pins
of the screw crank, and even with one wrap of tape
it's too much, maybe some of that dip would work there.
A lot of 2ed gens i've seen at the junkyard have the
rearview mirror rubber, when i bought my car it alreaddy
has that rubber piece..and i'm a GS.isn't that a SE thing
or did they all come with it.or was it an option for all models ?...that dip was a good idea pele...good one !!

Ok I'm bringing this old as heck thread up because I'm having the same problem, I've tried 3 glass ones and 1 plexiglass one and all rattle! The problem is not the back of the roof where the rotary **** is, its the from of it where the two hooks slide into the body. The hooks are like too thin, has and one else had this problem? If so how did you fix it? The plastic sleeve that's screwed in to the body is not broke, cracked, or warped.
