GSL-SE VS SERIES 4/5 oil cooler

Ok, I was under the impression that the series 4/5 oil cooler would be an upgrade to the gslse. I know that the series 4/5 n/a and turbo coolers are the same.

I'm fitting my intercooler for my 13bt swap and decided to measure the gslse cooler and my series 4 cooler. They are exactly the same size. They look like the exact same oil cooler exept that the mounting brackets are a little different.

Am I Correct? I hope so, it would make it easier not having to fit another cooler in there.

BTW, here is the intercooler I decided to go with:

I am very pleased with it's appearance and quality. Looks like it should flow well (air passages are much larger than the starion coolers I have laying around). Looks like it will fit but a tight fit. I will probably mess with it this weekend when I get a little more time. Planning to mount it right above the oil cooler (hopefully the stock gslse cooler).

I'll let you know how it fits when I get around to fitting it (50/50 chance for this weekend). Eyeballing it, it Looks like it will fit, the inlets and outlets will stick out the sides of the shroud that direct air through the front of the car. There will probably be an inch clearance on each side of the endtanks to the shrouds. Worst case scenario design some new shrouds. I will try to post pics when I get it fitted. Luckily I have a smashed gslse in my garage to fit it to I'm gonna sell the car once I get all the parts I need off of it. It is complete other than the t/c damage. I actually bought the car to strip out the gray interior but it is gonna work out nicely to fab brackets onto. Still looking for the gslse for my swap

Theres nothing better about the FC oil cooler over the GSL-SE one. THeir about the same size, just the fc one mounts differently. One is not better than the other, its just which one fits.

Has anybody tried the dual oil cooler setup like the ones on the fd? I figured that with the oil cooler on the sides you wouldn't block the area in front of the radiator

IMHO, the best one to use for dual oil cooler set-up is the early RX-2 with external by-pass. Several years ago, I used a stock FB and a GSL-SE OCs and connected them in series. I cut the spring off the GSL-SE's T-STAT and shimmed the bottom to plug up the by-pass hole. Although I didnt noticed any problem, I was worried that the T-STAT (the bottom fat section) can create a blockage in the outlet. I went back to a single OC.

When Im ready to do the turbo conversion, I will be using a RX-4 and RX-2 oil coolers in series.

Thanks, I will probably just stick with the gslse cooler then since their the same size as long as I don't need to reposition it to mount the FMIC
