Did you fry eggs on it?

I seen that happen with clogged cats,BUT I read somewhere that happend cause of a fuel problem also.
Discconect your exhast after the manifold or after your header..see what happends..did you feel a loss of power?

its gonna be because of clogged cats 99% of the time. Rotary's have a tend to have the header glow when the cats are clogged, because the exaust from a rotary is alot hotter than a piston engine.

check your spark plugs to see if you may be running too rich or too lean, also, check the timing it could be misfiring

lean would cause the et's to get high and make the headers glow, but this is typically hard running the car. you don't have headers and still have a cat do you? shame shame.

on my GSL-SE, I noticed that during warmup that the front header pipe was glowing red hot. Upon investigation it turns out that the connector on the fuel injector was brittle from age and heat and was not seating properly, suspecting that the injector wasnt spraying enough fuel and causing a lean condition; hence glowing header. I spliced onto the harness some injector connectors from the junkyard, reattached the intake manifold, started the car and now no more glowing header.

yeah i still have the cat on, sorry but i didnt do the exhaust, it was redone before i got the car. i plan on putting a rb street port exhaust system on durring next summer some time. so i might just cut off the cat and put a pipe in there for now, cuz where i live i dont have to test for emisions, lucky me ill just check out the cat, its a good reason to get rid of it anyway, then i will work with the fuel system, i know its not running properly, i dont know if it is running rich or lean. but i plan on getting a new carb in a month or 2 anyway.

the exhaust from a rotary is just plain HOT, i mean, yeah all exhaust is hot, but that's just an inherent by-product of their design. the header will glow and the cast iron exhaust manifold will glow just as much. it will glow for any sustained RPM higher than idle - whether rich, lean or anything in between. at least, mine did ... and i've NEVER run cats ...

A glowing header is not normal on any car. It will usually only be caused by 1: Clogged Cats. or 2: lean mixture. I've never seen anything glow on my GSL-SE or my GS, but it's happened to my toyota 22R with headers. It was a lean mixture condition. Check all of your vacuume hoses carefully for cracks and make sure they're all conected and conected to the right place.

Un capp it before the cat and let it run for some time,it wil be loud as hell, but you should feel more power gain if the cat is clogged.

Long running at High RPM will get the headers red hot! Mine runs perfectly, i dont have a cat, tuning is spot on, Mixture is spot on, and after running at 3500 RPM for 2 hrs the headers get a nice deep red glow to them.
I regularly take it on trips of 5 or more hours of constant running at 120Kph, and they sometimes get orange.

its nothing unusual. frightens service station owners when you pull in to refuel and there is a nice red glow on the ground under the car

I have full RB exhaust and one time when my trailing coil went out my header started glowing red hot. It also happened one time when my battery was dead and it was just the alt running the car.

i had the precat on my 2nd gen glow redhot once. had a straight-pipe welded on in its place and it never happened again.

on my 83, i have just discovered that the cat is glowing red as well. i think i will have to replace it as well.

i dont think anything is supposed to actually get hot enough to glow, except for the turbo's turbine housing after you beat the hell out of it.
