Getting the old gas out

79 gs no smog stuff, holly 600, rb intake, ele ign.
been sitting for about 2 yrs with the same gas in the tank

Should i just add 5 gal.new gas and turn her over OR drain all the gas i can, then add new and start the beast?
also what else should i be doing here after so long sitting?

i'm thinking drain the tank by disconnecting the fuel line at the front and let the pump drain it, or should i syphon the gas out the tank directly?

I would siphon it out by hand so it doesn't gunk up the filter and pump.

I would then put SeaFoam in it and some gas and let it sit for bit. Then while
its sitting I would take the carb off and open it up and at least clean it out real good
with carb cleaner and air or just rebuild. Your choice. While the carb is off I'd
dump a couple of caps of oil down the intake to help it make compression when
you try to start it.

I would then put in some more gas and put the carb back on and crank it up and
see how it goes.

pull the lines at the fuel filter or pump and get a turkey baster to start it flowing. then disconnect the lines from the carb and use an air hose to blow out the lines. this gets the crap out of the hard lines. i drained almost ten gallons out of mine when i first got it. she sat for 5 years. also the oil is a good idea. i used ATF.

Here is some good info and also gives mixture for gas. There is lots of threads about this stuff... In a nut shell it will clean out your fuel system and carbon. Just dump it in the gas and watch for the fire dpt.

All the rx-7 tanks I have seen have a small drain bolt on the bottom.

my 82 didnt have one! i KNOW the 84-85 does.

if the gas is only 2, i'd just start it, maybe pour a little oil down the carb.

i just woke up my tr3 after 4 years, and that gas wasn't so hot, but it ran well enough to go to the gas station and put some fresh gas in there

Drain plugs first appear on the S3 models.

The red '84 GSL had gas from '94 in it. It didn't want to burn. I pumped out as much as I could with the fuel pump, through the filter. No problems. Ther fresh gas I added diluted the old gas and it eventually cleared itself out. It didn't run too well during that phase, but it ran well enough. Would I do it that way again? Probably.

I just got my '81 running this evening after sitting for a year. Fired right up no problem.

I woke my S2 up after 2 years with just a little fresh fuel and a good battery-changed fuel filter after that tank had been drunk and haven't noticed it's suffered. Pretty much fired straight up.
