Fuel pump problem

My car is ready to start, but when I put the car on "ON". The fuel pump runs, but the fuel pressure is bouncing up and down, is there something wrong with the pump?

It is a carter 8 psi pump.

Is this the first time that you've used this pump or is this problem just randomly occurring for the first time? If you just installed the pump, then my recommendation would be to do the wiring upgrade in the archives if you haven't.

Yeah, it's his first time installing the pump. The pump was used but in great condition... it did sat for awhile before the install. Maybe a year or two? Would that matter?

Yes.

I think it is because i filled the float bowl with too much gas and causing back pressure to the pump, I don't have a fuel return setup. I started the car for a little bit and the pump works fine.

Does sound the the pump is phasing in and out of bypass mode. What regulator are you using and what's the pressure set at? Even with the pump phasing, the regulator should show steady output pressure at what the regulator is set at.
