found a source for expensive heater hose.

You know the hose that goes from the firewall and around the back of the engine under the oil filter. The one that's quite prone to splitting open.

I know that mazdatrix has them for like fifty bucks. Well I picked one up from autozone the other day for like 25.99. They had to order it but I had it in a couple days. It's a goodyear hose.

Only thing is when I look it up on their website its not listed anymore but you could still try. I'll post the part number later.

P.S. I know that you can get creative and use some elbow grease and get a normal 5/8 heater hose to work but I wanted the easy route.

so your saying this hose is patterned after the OEM part? as in: same shape and length?
Yeah - part number would be great!

I applied elbow grease and creativity and used standard goodyear heater hose.

Seems to be identical. Even has the little plastic shielding on it in one spot.

Goodyear part number is 63337. If you can't get one from autozone I hope someone's able to find a source.

I'll be putting it on next week when I get my other hoses and finish flushing my cooling system. I'll post the results. thanks.

Always struck me as one of those places where bent aluminum tubing would make sense, with just enough rubber at each end to allow for engine motion.

Mazda did this for the run from the firewall forward to the radiator, possibly forced into it by exhaust-side heat, but the one crossing the engine compartment got left behind the door.

the larger hose you decribe, i bought from mazdatrix for $27 for the 12A and close to $50 for the 13B from an SE. in fact, i have the long hose for a 12A right here..never brought it to the garage. it has a part number of N231-15-550

eyeballing it last night. And it looks too short. I think all the tricky bends are there but maybe your supposed to couple with a simple hose to finish it off. I'll update when I'm ready to do the install. Add pictures too. Stay tuned. Oh, and this for a 13B. Don't know if there's a differance or not.

Okay, I put the hose on last night and it works. The only catch is that it's about 8 inches too short. So here's what I had to do...

The part of the hose that connects to the engine and snakes around it is there.

The 90 degree elbow at the end where it connects to the firewall is there.

I cut it off just before the elbow at the firewall and coupled a piece of straight plain old 5/8 heater hose in between about seven or eight inches. Fits perfect.

So for a grand total of less than 30 bucks and an extra 5 minutes your good.

I'll post some pics later on.
