Flush headlight idea...
Flush headlight idea...
Ok, so I have been thinking about this idea for a while now, and Im just wondering if anyone other than like CP racing has ever tried this since I havent heard terribly good things about them and Ive seen a few that dont line up right. Basically, where I work I have a little vacuum box with a silicone bladder on top that we use for heat moulding plastic to foot orthotics and other things. Anyways the other day I was thinking what if I bring in my headlight covers and just drape a hot piece of co-polyester (our clear plastic) on it. I really think I could make this work without too much trouble and I think it would fit perfect. Anyways Ideas on this, or what kind of lights I could put behind them would be awesome.
I know what he's saying, I've seen the machine he's talking about too(seen it on an episode of MythBusters).
All I can say is try it and let the rest of us know how it works.
Trial and error, it could net you some serious $$$$$$ or it could be a huge flop.

I like the look of the flush CP kit but I wish that the covering wasn't just plain flat...like some of the flush kits for the 3rd gens where the glass or plastic is bubbled almost...I would like to see CP or someone do that, would add alittle character to the car rather than just following the body contour with the 1st gen flush kit...
Oh man thats a good idea, I could just take some modifying plaster and lay it out on top of the headlight cover, sand it up to however I would like and then do the plastic drape...I really gotta give this a shot.
Really, the CP kit is flat,no curve?
The Mid Tenn Miata kit has nice curved covers that follow the FB lines perfectly. All thats required is to have a local Plexi shop cut them to match the FB steel covers.Cost me about 20 bucks.
The rest of the kit had to be pretty severely modified to fit up,plus I ditched the weak, illegal square low beams for some rather large, but bright and legal Hella 90mm projectors. In the end it cost a bit more, but Id bet its still less than the CP kit and I have the satifaction of knowing I did it and its one of a kind...

i was thinking of making some out of some aluminum sheeting and then just use the same light set up as steve..with a rectangle and then some other type of round or oval shaped light turned sideways....then getting a shop to maybe make some plexi covers for me that i can rivets in while hiding the rivets under some weather striping to make it look cleaner..........???? i gusse this would would work
