Fastest 12A on Earth

Anyone else read this on Rotary News?

from www.rotarynews.com

Boris Rojas is the owner and driver of the Delirium Racing Team. Recently, their 1972 Datsun 1200 with a turboed 12a ran a 8.27 at 160 at the Salinas Speedway. It is a family and friend effort to complete this project. Boris currently owns a car repair shop in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico called Cars Motorsports.

The team is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and other team members include Ismael Velazquez, the pitman, Jose Burgos, the engine builder, and Jorge "Oso" Juarbe the Haltech fuel injection system programmer.

The car is a full tube mild steel chassis, the body is complete fiber glass of a 1972 Datsun 1200, the weight of the car is 1850 pounds with the driver, it of course has the 12A engine with only a port job, with an Innovative turbo and wastegate adjusted at 27 pounds of boost, a Tial blow off valve, it has 4 1100cc inyectors on a custom built throttle housing, stock distribuitor, with MSD boxes and coils a Greddy intercooler.

Boris has been involved in drag racing for around 10 years, starting out runing a Mustang doing 12 seconds, then after that he went into the smaller cars like a 1972 Datsun 1200 with a 1.8l Toyota engine and nitrous . This made the 1/4 mile in 10.7 seconds. Then he obtained the Datsun Delirium as an unfinished project. He installed the same 1.8l Toyota engine, and ran a 9.6 second 1/4 mile. He then decided to put a rotary engine in the Delirium. He was at first going to put a 13b with nitrous setup in, but then decided to do something different. Thus, the project has was given the 12a
That's crazy!!!!!!

hmmmm I'd like to see some pictures of that engine bay ... I suppose they don't want to reveal to much about their setup ... I quite like the Datsun 1200 Coupes (once they've been sorted) I saw a 120Y Coupe at the Japanese Auto Extravaganza in the UK ... that had a Straight 6 240Z engine on triple webbers mmmm nice

Does anyone know what the fastes (1/4mile) 12a RX7 is ? + pictures

My Tuner is working on one at his shop right now. Peripheral Port 13B with lots of Nitrous.

The car from factory (with all accessories, interior, etc) is less than 1700 lbs, and 68 hp on the 1200 cc engine.

I guess it might run a little faster now that it is completed gutted and lighter - about 1400 lbs with driver. The extra HP wouldn't hurt either..

What kit car are you working on? I personally really wanted to do a Fiero to a 25th Anniversary Edition Lamborghini Countach replica. I was thinking along the lines of custom built and ported 13BT, and maybe even some N20 . Oh well, all that has to wait until Im rich and famous...Or at least rich...

Its a lotus 7 lookalikey .... a Sylva Striker Mk2

Currently its part way throught build (very slow due to the RX7taking my mind off it )

Fitted with a ford X-flow engine ... 1600cc's Twin 40 webers , lightened and balanced , converted to run on unleded fuel ... should be quick but I'm hooked on rotaries now

heres some crappy fotos from a while ago ... I have some with the carbs and more body work done somewhere

P.S that steering wheel is NOT staying on the car

Okay, this time say it with FEELING.

I like that kit car though... I've been following a lot of Locost site of my own and I have some evil ideas I know that a rotary-powered Seven-clone has been done before, it was called the Rotus. As I understand it, they were quite fun! There is also another company that takes Europas, makes a whole new chassis for them (similar to stock but imporved in every way) and fits rotaries in them, up to 350hp spec. They have a website but there's no info on their Europa there. (Shame)

They guy who designed the car ( Jeremy Phillips Suspension and chassis design god in the UK)

Originally built the first striker with rotary power and there are one or two in the owners club running them too ... the main problem is the exhaust ... where can you fit the silencers ... the passengers get a rather warm leg too !

I think a 12a is a definate possibility once its on the road ... having said that I'm really tempted by a 4AGE toyota engine too
