Fan w/switch???

When driving around, if I pull up to a stop the fan will kick on and stay on till around higher RPM in second gear. It is really loud and seems to draw alot of power of the motor. I was wandering how hard it would be to rig up a toggel switch to turn it off for better stop light runs. Besides it hide the infamous rotory sound that I have recently fallen in love with.

do you have stock fan?
if so it is engine driven and is always on

if you have an electric fan it is easy to rig up just make sure you have fuses

If I stay in first gear and keep the revs at like 3000 or so I can hear it turn off. otherwise if I get on the gas it seems like the fan makes first gear really slow and worthless. Its not always on cause its loaud as hell when it comes on. It will turn on everytime I stop the car. does the 84 gsl have an electric fan or what?

not stock open the hood and see if it is connected to the engine it should be easy to tell if its electric or engine driven

if its electric just wire it up to a switch

ok So maybe its not the fan...'cause it is not electric. But something is kicking on when I stop. It sounds like somesort of fan but.....like I said before, Its as loud as the motor and w/ the 2 combined(motor and...sound) its just not what I want and it is a deferece of chirping the tires in second w/ it on and spinning the tires in second w/o. WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE and is there anything that can be CHEAPLY modifeid to fix it?

If it is attached to the motor, it isn't electric and it may be that the fan clutch has finally gone bad. I've had two of them go bad, so far. I've recently put in a Black Magic electric fan in place of a stock fan.

It makes a louder-than-usual fan sound when the fan clutch is bad.
