engine has mind of its own!

I was driving this evening and i punched it and shifted at 6800rpm. After the clutch was in for the shift and my foot COMPLETELY OFF THE GAS and the engine revved up to 7600 rpm! What the heck is going on?! I tried several more close to redline runs and it did the same thing. I thought the throttle was just sticking open or something so I ran it to redline with the clutch in and it acted normally. What is it? Ignition, timing, carb?

Sounds like a possibility, but the only way it could be so is if the secondary shaft return spring was unhooked.
The oil metering pump linkage could be binding, too.
Check the juice in your clutch?

clutch fluid is good. maybe I'll just lube up the whole thing and take it for a test drive later.

cleaned and lubed the linkage no success. Still revs up after I let off the throttle. Any more ideas?
