Exclamation Engine choices and upgrades?

Has anyone dropped a N/A S5 engine in a GSLSE FB? The intake ports wont line up obviously with my SE intake. Someone said with some smaller modification the lower S5 intake can be adapted to the SE uppper intake????

The point is S5 is supposed to have lighter rotors=quicker acceleration. Is it worth finding a S5 core for a rebuild or stick with rebuilding my SE engine?

Third thing. I maintain about 20 mpg with my SE. But I want to port. This would bring it down. WHAT if....I just get the 5/6 ports ported? Wicked powerband and I would only suck gas after 3800 RPM. Anyone know the performance gain vs. price ($300)?

I tried this question in the Rotory Performance section and they all seem to be......slow.

Thanks.

i just got my 6 port 13B put in my car and running, street ported, and i'm getting about 16 mpg average between both city and highway... do more highway driving than city, but i really hit it hard in the city lol, hence why its down a little lower... and yes, u can do that to ur 5th and 6th port... something i was thinking of... was bridging the 5th and 6th ports and leaving the actuators... so u have a 1/4 bridge i guess... but i'm not running the sleeves in mine, nor the stock manifolds, so i don't know if itd work ok.... maybe if i get a SE or a NA FC... we'll see...

S5 also has an electric OMP from what I understand.

I would just go with an S4. Less complications. S5 is only like 15 more HP.

u'd use an S3 front cover if u put it in a SE, so that he could use the stock motor mount, and then he'd use the stock S3 OMP...

and that 15 more hp is welcome by me, if i had the option i'd take it... just like when i had the option of going 12A or 6 port 13B... went 13B, much wiser choice imo... start out with a higher baseline

The answers to your questions are:-

Yes

Yes

S5

Yes

Possible, but 6 port always difficult to profile to get smooth powerband

Marginally worthwhile

you're also not considering the fact that the S5 makes 15 HP more as a complete system. you're planning to run the SE manifold with SE FI computer. you're probably not going to get all of the stock S5 power that way.

forget the differences between S3, S4 and S5 unless you're planning to build for all-out performance. you can build a very nice engine based on your SE's 13B. a mild streetport will give you decent mileage in the city and as long as you run a decent setup, it'll probably increase your highway mileage.

The s5 had 25hp more than the s3 of which some came from the far better ecu so as diabolical said you will not get the total power increase. There is no hard evidence, but I guess anywhere between 10-15hp for other improvements.

As for fuel consumption, the s5 was well designed. While a mild streetport will give you reasonable mpg I am not cetain it will be better than stock. What is interesting is that according to official specifications there was only 1mpg difference between the s5 NA and turbo.

just make sure you have all the parts you need BEFORE you start going into it.

dude i think u should port the 5th and 6th ports(i really think u should bridge em ) but seriously, port em, u'll appreciate the extra top end, and still enjoy quite possibly the same gas mileage on the highway...
