emissions failure!!
I took my 85 GSL-SE to get it inspected and because of where I live in in Virginia, an emissions test as well. It failed the emissions test because of high carbon monoxide and one other factor (HC ppm). The results were:
15 MPH 25 MPH
Limit Reading Result Limit Reading Result
HC ppm 140 780 Fail 135 675 Fail
CO % 0.79 7.09 Fail 0.83 3.44 Fail
Does anyone know what would have caused this?? A few people I know swear it is the main converter, but could it be anything else. I have 14 days to correct the problem or pay for another try after that.

Does your car backfire at all, or your exhaust smell really rich?
When I brought my new purchase up to Denver, it backfired like crazy and smelled really rich. My problem was the Air Control Valve which pumps air into the exhaust to dilute the gasses and so the cat can burn off the bad stuff. If you need one of these, try to get a used one. The new or refurbed ones are really expensive ($300 - $500).
my cats were completely trashed, and the main converter only cost about $250, new.
good luck, I was in a similar situation not able to drive cause I couldn't get past emissions.

Thanks for the tip. My car doesn't backfire and it smells a little rich but nothing too extreme. I am sure that one of those many valves is causing me these problems!
