Emissions in ATL

Well the emissions test failed. That is not good, no pass no tag.

The guy said that I'm running rich, and that I need a cat. Here are the test results.

25/25 test 50/15 test
type Reading Allowed Reading Allowed
HC ppm 463 197 511 203
CO % 3.27 1.27 2.97 1.15
NOxppm 2227 3000 max 308 1577
CO+CO2 14.9 6.0 min 14.6 6.0 max

I just want it to pass emissions. I have to redo them in 5 months because of my birthday. So i really just want to get though it. Is there a good course of action? I do not have an air pump, or any of the rats next. I do have the exaust from the 83 GS, will that mount up to the 84 GSL and route the same way?

BTW I live in Atlanta, GA.

i really think it could be passed without the pump. i have my DD leaned out and it doesnt smell or anything. thats a sniffer test though and ive also never had to take an emissions test.

i have a full stock exhaust off of my 85 GSL. you can have it for free if you come get it.

has anyone ever hears of these guys

http://www.performancecenter.com/add...icematch=&url=

I don't know if i should buy it or what i should do. I need a cat. but i need the cat to work not just the presents of one. Sorry aws140, but not sure if the old stock cat would be worth the trouble of mounting it up and it being burnt out.

Autozone has some. I just need to get it good for one day.

i have two full exhaust systems, one off a 85 GSL and one off a 84 GSLSE. theres bound to be a good cat in it somewhere. you can have both if you come get them.

3rd and final 7:

I don't have the change to buy one of those yet. I only have 1 more year and it will not matter any more. I personally would like to just get it to pass as cheap as possible. I will keep the link handy though for buying in the future.

i dont think youll pass with just adding a cat. if your carb is running rich itll fail like a ****. does the carb of your old car run better? if so, switch them. what i did was install an aftermarket fuel pump and a FPR. i turned my psi down. thats helped lean the car out.

search passing emmissions. rx7_doctor has made my threads with lots of good info on how to do so. thats your best bet. do that before you buy anything.

emissions are in Atlanta metro... I would think that Valdosta, Macon, and Tifton are next on the list.. Savana maybe as well.

It is not so bad

Last year of testing for 83 is this year.
Last year for 84 will be 08
Last year for 85 will be 09

So not much longer and all first gens will be good for GA. Unless they change the law before that happens.

You will not pass the tailpipe emissions without the equipment hooked up and functioning. The air pump WILL need to be hooked up along with the ACV inorder for the cat to receive the proper amount of air to light off the cat.

You could try using Acetone in the fuel.
Read the link www.acetone.com for what they had to say about it lowering the emissions.

Emissions Passed!

Installed the cat and removed the break booster air hose during testing and the car passed. NO air pump or other such things hooked up. One more year left. Guess that is something to be happy about.

Ha, Ha!!! He Got The Okey Doke!!! I Used To Get The Same Test When I Lived In Atlanta... If You Get To Know Somebody In The Biz You Might Not Even Have To Take Them The Car... Just Drop Off Your $$$ And Pick Up The Decal Or How Ever They Do It Now... I Finally Just Started Registering My Car In A Non Emissions County...
I Installed A Random Technology Cat In My '85, And It Got Better Emissions... But It Never Really Passed On Its Own...
