embarking on my quest for knowledge

84 12a stock.

please dont just tell me to search.

i have recntly pulled the motor, and began tearing it down.

this summer, i plan to do a streetport, with a 48 dcoe, and a rcingbeat header, to a straight exhaust. while the motor is out, i also plan on putting urethane bushings, and new sway bars, also i want to install a new clutch and flywheel.

next summer, i plan to do a blowthrough with an s4/s5 turbo, and a font mount.

i was wondering

-can the carb run good if i get it boost preped now, even if i am not going to boost it for a year.

-should i do any internal modifications, now while the motor is apart(i.e. harden stationary gears, ceramic seals.)

-how much would i benifit, from a mandrel bent exuast, over a crinkle, with just the sp carb, and header.(because i plan on going with a new exhaust once i get ready to do the turbo.)

FYI

-i wont drive this in the winter, but will in te summer, and hopefully alot. so i want to keep it as efficient, and as practical as possible

-i want to make as much power as possible, maybe even upgrade the turbo eventually. so i want to run alot of boost.

so what would you suggest, i want to know all your ideas expensive and cheap, so i can decide on my own.

also i have no idea what to do for the ignition, i am totaly clueless in that area.

thank you in advance.

Fast. Cheap. Reliable. - Pick TWO thats your first step.

I know you don't wanna search, but you should. You aren't doing anything revolutionary and you aren't too sure of what to do. Stand on the shoulders of genuises. Learn from others experience.

i say go all out...get 12at rotors new from mazda...top of line seals...biggest turbo u can find. dont take ANY short cuts and your car will be great. not cheap tho...hes right u gota choose two. but with cars its the short cuts that always handicap you car. if EVERYTHING is done right...then just as it saids its right and nothing can go wrong...this doesnt happen often but is possible. if this setup is possible for you then im sure u got enough cash to sling me some so i can rebuild/turbo my 12a i got laying around

ok, i realize that that post made me sound somewhat clueless, and made me seem like i wanted everything. although i have done a handful of research, and if i have overlooked something, just point me in the right direction.ok, i know what i want to do, i just need to know the following, can much more than fifteen psi be pushed, on the stock apex seals. and if not, how much more power/psi do the ceramic seals yeild, if any. also if i get a carb boost preped, will it hurt it to run without boost.

ok, you can run a boost prepped carb without the boost. that is fine. think about it, you will be running a turbo, not s supercharger so in reality, your not always boosting anyways. more than 15psi on the stock seals? SURE, i know of two people that have before. you always just have to make sure everything is right tho,...... enough fuel, timing, spark, etc... TUNING IS THE KEY!!!!!! get it on a damn dyno and TUNE TUNE TUUUNE!

oh and dont go with ceramic seals. i think those are for high rpm n/a motors only. boost will destroy those. use 3mm apex seals.
