EGR and Rats Nest removal.....

I was under the impression that when I do my rats nest removal that I would need the two block off plates(EGR and AC CV or something like that). I bought the second plate, but when I looked for the EGR plate, it says it's for the 79-80 and 86 and on....Do I not need an EGR block off plate for my 1985 GSL 12a? I currently have the RB Streetport system on my motor. Sorry for the use of bandwidth, but when searching, I could not find any year specifications. I'm following the RN Removal tutorial in the FAQ.

You still need two plates. One covers the ACV and the other covers the split air pipe on the rear of the manifold. The EGR however is cast in the engine block and doesn't need a plate on the '81-'85 12A motors.

If you already have a RB exhuast system this should all be take care of. At least as long as you have the header too. When the system was installed, it should have included two blockoff plates. If they were properly installed at the time, you're all set with the blockoffs.

If you're running a 79-80 intake manifold (flows best stock), then you'll need the block off plate with your header. You can fab a nice L piece out of alum and it sits just right. pm Rx7Carl for the specifics as he made mine.

Otherwise, the only plate required is shown in the tutorial. Buy it from RB and you should be good to go. If I've misunderstood you, my apologies. With the headers, (provided you don't have cats) there will be a few steps that you get to completely ignore in the tutorial.

Cheers.

There are no EGR valves on many rotaries. They really dont need them.
1980 CA models were the only 1st gens to have an EGR.
