Dual DIN in an SA22C ( Stereo surround Mod)

Stuff needed:
1/8 UHMW sheet

Loctite Plastics Bonding System 681925

JBWeld epoxy

I thought I would share one of the things I am working on. I have this stereo:

I started rough cutting the unit so the stereo would fit through the hole:

Next is spraying a light coat of paint as a layout. cut the UHMW sheet to fit using a dremmel. cut small pieces for additional support. remove the paint from area to be glued. Glue with Loctite Plastics Bonding system and clamp.

We are going to use the JB Weld as a filler and additional strength. sparingly apply to the edges once the Loctite has cured.

We are now at a curing stage and tomorrow will be smoothing it all out using a sanding block.

stay tuned.

That rustoleum is the same can but in a satin black I used. I really should have gotten some high build primer and sprayed with my hvlp gun.

That said should I go with a satin black or the medium grey metallic?

I think that the satin black frames the unit quite well. But I’m only 80% positive of this.

just a thought, but maybe something closer to the stereo color, like what Mazda did in 84-85?

Shift surround is black. I think I ended up with a "S" trim with the center consul in flat black. This of course can be changed. My issue with rattle can metallic is its not quite the look Im aiming for. If I could do a black in a mica or pearl in a satin ... Not sure if that is possible. Defiantly not from the box stores where I live.

hot tip for painting plastics. Use krylon fusion as a primer, then hit with whatever your rattle can color/brand of choice.
