Door latch leak

Hello all,

When it rains I get water leaking through the door latch this probably wouldn't be such an issue if I didn't park the car on an incline nose up. Any idea on how to seal this? I have some workarounds but would rather fix it for good.

Door latch

Are you saying the water is coming out of the latch? If so it's probably the outer window weather strip where the door sill ad window meet. Common issue. If water is coming in from there, maybe the over all door rubber seal.

Are you talking about this part? 8871-58-781? If so, I guess I'll add it to my list of things to buy.

I also edited my previous post to nose up. If it's nose down its fine but then I occasionally have other issues since the fuel tank is higher then the carb.

I haven't but I suspect they'd be in the bottom of the door right? The latch is much high than the bottom of the door and at that point the water would come out the door card.

there are two possibilities. the first is that the weatherstrip on top is really bad, and water is dripping on the latch and draining out. #2 is that the drains are plugged and the door is full of water, ordinarily water should not be as high as the latch.

you would think the water would come out of the door panel, but there is (or was) a plastic sheet in there to keep water off of it, and its a big sturdy thing anyways.

Provided that data, it's likely the first. The plastic sheet is likely gone. I was in the door about a year ago and remember no evidence of water getting trapped there. I'll revisit but I'm near 100% sure it's likely not the case and the weatherstripping is now to blame. I can get the water to come out of the latch via water hose while letting water run down the glass. I thought my weather strip was fine enough but I guess it's not.

Will anyone provide me a picture of the ends of the weatherstripping since that part number is NLA and I'll need to buy the Atkins Rotary version? To the best of my knowledge these are delivered a little longer than necessary and need to be cut down. I just want to ensure it's done correctly.

Should I use caulk on the ends? Would silicone grease restore the current weatherstripping? It looks to be in great condition.

Thank you all for your help.

I would not use caulk, I did mine a few years ago and used 3m black adhesive, i taped it off, before i applied it.

Poor choice of words. That would be a much better application.
