no you do not need a intercooler for any motor carb of EFI.... but it will now be as efficient! you will not be able to run as high boost..

As long as the intake temps are monitered/controlled(by practicing restraint),then an IC is not needed.

And,the factory 12AT is not carbed, its injected. It just looks carb'd because of the type of throttle/intake used.

intercooler=good idea. especially in houston. you have a radiator for engine coolant, an oil cooler for your oil, and an intercooler for air. would you run without a radiator or oil cooler?

an intercooler in not manditory but is definatly a positive addition to and turbo car
where did you get the 12A turbo? those are almost impossible to find!

is it an aftermarket 12a with a turbo kit? if so is it carbed? if it is then is the turbo a draw through setup? through carb- to turbo- to intake? if it is then you CANNOT RUN A INTERCOOLER OR A BLOW OFF VALVE. if its efi, then have at it, intercoolers are a great way to increase power.

iirc the jdm 12at cars didnt come with an intercooler.

if it is then is the turbo a draw through setup? through carb- to turbo- to intake? if it is then you CANNOT RUN A INTERCOOLER OR A BLOW OFF VALVE.

why cant you run an intercooler with that setup?

It didn't have an intercooler because the turbo was so small and ran on such small amounts of boost that it didn't need an intercooler. It is not a draw through setup at all, it just wasn't used in the car. That goes without saying that if you wanted to run any higher boost levels you would have to find a way to lower intake temps, which would easily be somewhat solved by an intercooler.

I have been curious if someone could do a water to air intercooler (sleeve) for draw through that would not allow fuel to puddle up, because it would not have a different diameter then the pipe alone.

Possible,but I see one problem.....

The act of cooling the intake charge could have the same puddling effect. When the charge cools, the fuel in suspension will condense and puddle.Especially when you consider how effective water/air intercoolers can be.

I have the 12aT in my car and feel no need for an intercooler at standard boost levels. An added benefit of this is the quick 'spool up/boost' rate at which the car preforms (around 3000rpm). I have been thinking about an intercooler but it looks like alot of fabrication for the piping ect. if retaining the factory cast inlet thingy. (you know the orange ones)
