Dizzy with square one hole for wire?
Guys
I just got my new magnetic p/u assembly to replace the one with the bad wires. As I searched thru the dldfis threads no one mentions the difference in Distributor housings. The pickup came with the two clips that need the mating connectors to be filed down. However my distributor only has one square hole to put all four wires in. Do I carve up the housing or modify the wiring??? WHat distributor do I have here? I thought my 12a was an 85?

Is there a list of serial #'s or something to be able to tell? That is what I had,it was a box that looked like a voltage regulator with ignitors on the back. Hmm I guess Maybe I need to re-read half the archive with that in mind. Jeese I thought i had that almost done.

Now this ain't right??? Do you have to adjust these? The manual says if the gap isn't right get a new one. are the 81-85 pickups bent like this?

Sorry jeff we must have posted right at the same time. I bought the new coil from the dealer so it's probably not returnable... so I'm thinking I need an 81-85 distributor with the two holes??? What's up with the angle on the pickups? Do the 81 to 85 models do that?

I don't think it's sposed to look like that. Looks like it was damaged in shipment. May not be returnable, but should be able to exchange, due to damage in transit.

Yeah
It's going back in the bag and back to Mazda. Oh well, it give me time to wire in the relay.
Jeff
A company called Calterm makes the female version of the tabs that we need to go in place of the little ignitor tabs. I can't seem to find a male version. The ones I have are from Advance but I was there yesterday and they don't have the males.

I hacked up the 80 to fit the piece in the side, Actually it fit better in the hole I made than in the original hole on the other side. That is the new hole in the crooked pickup picture picture.(say that fast three times) I'll switch if I see one cheap somewhere.
Jeff... I've seen a couple different numbers for plugs posted. What are these BUR 7EQ 's. What should I be using?

The BUR 7EQ is 2nd gen leading plugs.
The first gen normally uses a BUR8EQ-14 (I think that's right), but I use 2nd gen plugs in my 12A, and any 12A or 13B I happen to work on.
