price = 15 bucks! (more or less)

pros = more power in the high rpms, and smoother ide

cons = need to replace leading plugs sooner

instructions = see Installed Direct Fire 2nd Gen Coil today

is it worth it on a GSL-SE = YES!

If you would actually click on innitab's link, you would find that all the parts he bought, as well as a very generous write-up is available for everyone to see.

An alternate way of doing direct fire is going the DLIDFIS way, which is what I've done. Check these links for info and install pics.

Thanks for the affirmation MosesX605! Yeah I thought it was pretty clear. I guess some folks just don't want to do any of their own homework no matter how simple it is.

For the 2nd gen coil method you will need 2 parts, a 2nd gen leading coil and the ballast resistor out of the 2nd gen ignitor assembly. Usually you can find the "2nd Gen Coil/ignitor assembly" on eBay for 15 bucks or so. Pull the resistor out of the ignitor assembly and throw the 2nd gen ignitor away. 2 parts that's all you need.

A precise list for DLIDFIS is one more stock coil and one more J-109 ignitor, with four small female quick disconnects (used on tweeters and small speakers) for the pins on the backs of the ignitors. The rest like wiring, aluminum, etc are all easy to get. The rest depends specifically on what your vehicle needs (click the links above).

well first off, before any of u keep being ********, i did look at that site. The link u i clicked up there, took me to the site, but no text came up other than the go to homepage link and the dldfis or soemthign like that. I went to the dlidfis one on his site, and it was as though someone who has never taken an english class in their life had written it, no offence to whoever wrote it at least you took the time to do a writeup, but i am used to different style of writing and couldnt really comprehend it so sorry, but i did at least attempt, i like it when things are more straigh out. a list of wat u need, and steps 1: step 2: and so on

I didn't read all of that thread, but how did you control the ignition without a CAS and FC ECU?

I have the MSD direct fire. All that I needed extra was a second gen leading coil and an MSD 6A. I just happened to have both lying around so it was no big deal to me. I did not use the ballast resistor from the 2nd gen. What is the performance difference? My car runs great without it.

This coming from a guy whose grasp of grammar leaves something to be desired. The best part is, you haven't even see the ******** on this board come out yet. Just wait till you **** off Sterling.

In the meantime buddy, kiss my ***. If you are too lazy/stupid to figure it out from the info that we've posted, then don't even bother.

lmao dude, i started typing that right after the guy said i didnt read that site, and when i finished psoting it there were more replies. And i do understand it now, which is why i thanked all the people that helped me. as for my grammer, im in a forum, not many people use proper grammar in a forum, however in a writeup i would. And, the stuff u told us obviously didnt help to much because it wasnt just me who couldnt understand the jibberish you tried to fill us with. Sorry, but i did read that site by the 20b guy, confusing, i read everyhitng you all posted, and for hte most part it cleared everyhting up

i read the 20b guys write up AGAIN and it said somethign about an 80s distributor(note i did not say rx-7). What is up with this note, does it mean i do not use one off of a rx-7 bt instead one from a random car or wat. That just lost me right there

AFAIK, you can use any dizzy from a 12A or a GSL-SE. Both drop right in. NAPA offers rebuilt dizzys for a fairly decent price.

I tried to find an old post of mine describing my conversion to a 3rd gen coil but its gone. Anyhow, there was a lot of talk about buring out the ignitor. It's been on there for a long *** time and it's still going strong. DLIDFIS seems like a pain in the *** in comparison. Furthermore, I've heard that Blaster 2 coils are maybe as good as a stock coil, but probably not even as good. Just some food for thought...

I wrote the DLIDFIS article to confuse the hell out of you. It's long, has very little formatting, and was written over two years ago. If you really have read it twice in a row, your eyes ought to be aching right about now.

I think I joined this forum shortly after I wrote the article. A lot has changed, but I still don't have an RX-7 yet... yet I come in here and try to help out as best as I can. I also use what I hope are decent typing skills, to make it easier on the readers. Forums are like verbal conversations, but all we have here are typed words. If you can't type worth beans, it's like talking with a speech impediment, or a mouthful of beans.

Oh yeah BigJim, nice to meet you. Good luck with your '80s distrubutor in your RX-7.
