Difference between 12A and 13B oil cooler hoses?

Would a '82 12A oil cooler fit on a '84 GSL SE 13B model? If so, are there any differences between the hoses? Fittings? Lengths?

In other words, would the 13B hoses work on the 12A model and vice versa? Thanks for reading.

The GSL-SE oil cooler has slightly angled ports to allow the oil lines to route around the radiator. (The radiator also has a dimpled section, compared to a tall 12A radiator)

My gut feeling is that you can put a GSL-SE cooler in a 12A but not vice-versa without a lot of clearancing, or relocating the cooler slightly more forward/angled.

The hoses will definitely not work. 12A hoses will be too short.

Thanks peejay.

Do you know where I can view what the oil cooler brackets look like on an 84 GSL-SE 13B?

I removed my cooler yesterday and gave it to a friend to clean up and pressure test it for leaks (the tube/port appears to be cracked.) I didn't pay attention to what the brackets looked like.

He removed one of the brackets! I told him the 13B oil cooler does not have replaceable brackets, at least that is what I read somewhere. So if you break/tear the rubber cushion, you cannot replace that bracket and you need to buy a new cooler.

He claims I must have a 12A cooler. But my cooler has angled ports/pipe like you mention, so I'm wondering if Mazda did something to allow replaceable brackets on the 13B (GSL-SE) oil cooler? Thanks.

The oil cooler mounts are removable. They are NLA, however, meaning they are irreplaceable. There once was a time that you could get new mounts, but it's been at least seven-eight years since they've been available.

Oil Coolers, Cooler Hoses, Fittings, and Catch Tanks

All 1984-85 models have the chassis bracket for the GSL-SE cooler. I felt really bad when I converted my GSL to -SE cooling system, because my oil cooler didn't have mounts and I had to remove the bracketry to install the cooler. I ended up using a couple chunks of mudflap attached to the radiator mount side panels. Felt like a total goof for not being able to just bolt up the cooler to the brackets that were there for that purpose.

The gsl-se and non-gsl-se oil cooler mounts are not interchangable

Correct. They are shaped completely differently.
