Difference between 12a&13b front mt oil cooler
#2
In other words, I'm pretty sure the oil cooler that was sent to me is from a 12 A due to the way the brackets are welded onto the cooler. Could I get all the mounting hardware from a 12A car and successfully mount this cooler into my 13 B car? Will it clear all hoses? I know the bungs on the cooler are angled differently between the 12A and 13B but will that be an issue with the oil lines and their clearance? Really looking for someone with knowledge on this because the internet and the local dealer are very vague at best. Pics would be great too because my car is missing all the brackets,so, if I could see one I may be able to figure this out as well.

You probably already know this, but the 12a oil cooler mounts fastened to the radiator somehow as opposed to the mounts bolting to the chassis like on the SE. Thats about all I can tell you. But someone here knows I'm sure.

Just briefly looking at the new ones listed on the Mazdatrix page, you can see there is a noticable difference in the mount setup. Here is a link to the page:

As for a bit of encouragement, I once bought a FB that has a FC oil cooler mounted/bolted to a piece of alumnimum angle stock that was secured to that large front tubular chassis reinforcement via U-bolts.
In other words the cooler was bolted to the piece of aluminum with stock mounts and then the aluminum had 4 holes drilled in it (2 sets for 2 large u -bolts). the u-bolts went around the tubular support and then hung downwards and mounted the aluminum brace/bracjet etc...
They used SS lines w/A&N fittings to plumb the thing. So, you can make what you have work, it might not be in the stock location unless some other members might know a way to do it. hope that helps.

I assume you could if you used a radiator for that application I suppose. Again, I can't tell you yes or no because I am not that familiar with it. But someone will know the answer.
the modified way I described earlier was pretty cool and you could still have the stock grill installed also. It was up out of the way which was Ok too.
I can take pics of it for you because I still have that setup but not mounted to a car. but it won't be until tomorrow

Yeah I've seem another member on here do something similar. My issue is that I just bought new oe lines so I'd like everything to fit as close to stock as possible. Thanks for the input though. Glad you told me how they mounted differently. Seems like that would have been easier info to find.

The OE lines don't really give you a lot of extra length to play with, as they are the exact length required, so i am doubtful that they will allow you to fasten then to anything other than the stock location and stock cooler.
Maybe by mounting it under the radiator (like you want to/if you can) then that would position the cooler closer to the engine than the stock SE location - then you might be able to use them (OE lines). Again, not having done it I can't give you too much help.
